The American Samoa Boxing Federation is the official organization for amateur boxing in American Samoa.

We train, support, and inspire boxers to reach their full potential in and out of the ring through training, competitions, and community programs. The American Samoa Boxing Federation (ASBF) is proud to be a recognized member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), on par with the United States, representing the sport of boxing in American Samoa. PRESS STATEMENT:

The American Samoa Boxing Federation (ASBF) issues this statement to address recent commentary on social media regarding its President, Paepaetele Mapu Jamias, and to reaffirm the values and mission of the Federation.

President Jamias has long been a pillar of the boxing community, not only in American Samoa but also on the world and international stage. He has represented our territory as a Technical Official at the Olympic Games on two occasions and has participated in numerous Oceania and World Boxing Championship events. His presence and leadership have elevated the visibility of American Samoa boxing within the global sporting arena.

Beyond his international service, President Jamias has been at the forefront of supporting local athletes with the help of the American Samoa National Olympic Committee (ASNOC). His unwavering leadership and selfless service go far beyond organizational responsibilities. Time and again, he has personally invested his own resources to purchase equipment, fund training, and cover travel, lodging, and meal expenses, ensuring that athletes are never deprived of opportunities.

These sacrifices reflect not only his deep commitment to the sport of boxing but also his belief in the potential and promise of American Samoa’s athletes. Through his personal dedication, he has ensured that our athletes continue to compete, develop, and proudly represent American Samoa on regional and international stages.

The Federation upholds its core values of dedication, commitment, and safety, principles that are non-negotiable and define our identity. Every athlete and participant involved in our training programs is expected to embody these values at all times. While training is an opportunity for growth and improvement, arriving to train under the influence of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited. The Federation does not condone, excuse, or overlook such behavior. Training while impaired not only diminishes performance and disrespects the sport but also endangers the safety and welfare of other athletes.

Opportunities to compete in the ring are not given. They are earned through hard work, discipline, and consistent effort. Equally important is setting an example worthy of respect. Our athletes are not only competitors but also ambassadors of American Samoa, and their conduct both inside and outside the ring must reflect discipline, respect, and being positive role models.

The Federation is aware of a recent post circulating on social media that contains false and misleading information about President Paepaetele Mapu Jamias. We urge the public to be cautious about such misinformation and to seek facts from credible sources.

To clarify, the individual responsible for these posts previously participated in boxing training activities in preparation for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands. However, due to lack of commitment, specifically inadequate conditioning, poor attendance, and failure to meet performance standards, this individual quit in the middle of training camp without any valid reason.

The community deserves to know that this social media individual holds no standing within the boxing organization. He again repeated the same act of dropping out without any valid reason, besides being overweight and not meeting performance standards, when the ASBF Team was preparing for the Marist Boxing Championships in Apia, Samoa earlier this year. This same individual displayed very unprofessional and unsportsmanlike behavior during training, repeatedly throwing punches and hitting other athletes in the back of the head after the bell rang.

This individual was repeatedly told not to return for boxing training because he showed up drunk, drugged, and under the influence. Additionally, repeated violations of training conduct, including attending sessions while impaired and endangering the safety of younger athletes which led to his removal from training.

The Federation does not take disciplinary actions lightly. Such decisions are made solely to protect the safety, integrity, and well-being of all athletes. The American Samoa Boxing Federation remains committed to maintaining a positive, professional, and drug-free environment that reflects the true spirit of the sport.

Under the leadership of President Paepaetele Mapu Jamias, the American Samoa Boxing Federation will continue to advance opportunities for athletes, uphold integrity, and promote excellence in the sport of boxing throughout our territory and beyond.
