Paul, Andi

It's been two weeks you've left, it still feels unreal. More than friends, you were pillars of the Innsbruck community, the hole you're leaving behind is immense...

Paul, our paths crossed 2017, as you and Flo visited the workshop kindly asking to test a board. By the end of that winter, you had used and abused the entire test quiver! I'll miss these countless repair sessions with you, our vinosophic discussions about board shapes or about the grand scheme of life... Thanks for all these places you've taken me to, these lines we shared, for your always good mood and lightness, and before all for your unconditional support to Baguette Boards.. Whether it was in the workshop, within your circle of friends or at testivals, you were always there to speak the good words and give a hand, asking nothing in return. The way you dedicated your life to snowboarding with no interest for fame was so authentic and truly inspiring, we will live up to that with zigy stars in our eyes! Rest easy, brother..

Andi, it's been about 4 years when you first passed the door of the workshop, with sparks of curiosity in your eyes. Straight away you embraced the idea of bringing back snowboard manufacturing in the tirolean valleys, and you've jumped alongside, helping where you could. You quickly became my assigned elektroingenieur, and took care of the entire electrical installation of the workshop.. Whenever I switch on the sanding machines, I hear the valves opening and the dust extractor starting, all automatically... I think about you! Your kindness, generosity and altruism will remain, as a caring standard to live up to. Thank you for everything you've done, rest peacefully my friend..

Our thoughts go to Franzie, Sarah, your family and friends.. And to all who had the inestimable chance of getting to know you.

❤️

Contact pressure and carving behavior 🏂

While riding, your body weight flows down through your bindings to the edge of your snowboard, interacting with the snow underneath. The way these forces are distributed along the board's length is referred to as "contact pressure".

The distribution of these forces is crucial: when the pressure locally becomes too high, the snow beneath breaks loose, and the grip is lost - this is what makes your board rather drifty or more aggressive, creates vibrations or eventually takes you down during your turn.

Do you relate to that?

Many thanks to who managed to put visuals on my words, to illustrate my scientific research with these beautiful graphics!

Understanding Torsion in Snowboard Design 🏂

Torsion plays a crucial role in how a snowboard performs on the slopes.
But what is it exactly?

Torsion refers to the twisting force along the snowboard’s longitudinal axis, as shown in the picture. This twisting allows the board to flex independently between the edges, improving control during turns and enhancing grip on uneven terrain.

At Baguette Boards, we carefully optimize torsion by balancing materials like wood, fiberglass or carbon, and adjusting the fiber orientation.

The direction of fiber reinforcement (unidirectional or ±45°) has an impact on a snowboard's performance:
🔹 ±45° fiber orientation increases torsional stiffness, allowing for more responsive edge control and improved turning dynamics.

Finding the right balance between these properties is key to achieving the perfect ride! 💡
This ensures our boards feel responsive and intuitive, whether you’re carving groomers or tackling powder.
Want to experience the difference? Design your custom board with us today.

Ever wondered how your snowboard deforms on the slopes?

It’s all about bending.

Bending refers to how a snowboard flexes along its length, shown in the picture. This flex is key to absorbing shocks, maintaining stability, and adapting to varied terrain. A well-engineered flex is key for a lively board, adapted to your ride.

The bending stiffness of a snowboard can be influenced by:
🔹 Wood Core – The choice of the wood (e.g., poplar, paulownia, bamboo) impacts the board’s overall flex and responsiveness.
🔹 Thickness Profile – A thicker core increases stiffness, while a thinner profile allows for more flex and playfulness.
🔹 Fiber direction – The unidirectional fiber orientation determines flex distribution along the board, affecting stability and pop.

By fine-tuning these elements, we can create snowboards that match different riding styles, from playful freestyle boards to aggressive freeride machines! 🔥
At Baguette Boards, we fine-tune the bending properties of our snowboards with premium materials like bamboo, wood, and fiberglass. Each layer is carefully crafted to create the perfect balance between flexibility and strength—designed specifically for you.
Feel the difference of custom design. Build your unique snowboard today!

What if snowboards could last forever? 🔄 Planned obsolescence doesn’t belong in our workshop. That’s why we’ve introduced a second-hand network. Old board? Damaged on the rocks? Don’t throw it away—it still has value.

We refurbish and repair boards, giving them a second life. By building with natural materials like wood, bamboo, and cork, we make repairability a priority. It’s better for the planet, and it’s better for the rider. 🏔️

Meet Lukas Goller, one of the talented artists in the Baguette family. 🏂
For over 25 years, Lukas has been a defining figure in the snowboarding scene. Many of you know him from his golden years traveling and filming with Pirates Movie Production. But fewer know about his artistic journey—a pursuit that challenges the boundaries of rules, society, and imagination.

Lukas is a relic of the original skateboarding spirit, a mark of passing time. Through his art, he addresses life’s big questions and opens cultural horizons. He believes that art is defined by its interaction with the viewer: ‚No viewer, no art.‘

Using techniques like ink, acrylics, and silkscreen printing, Lukas creates works that invite reflection and expand perspectives. Beauty and joy, he says, are side products of meaning.
