Does lifting weights stunt your growth? No — but this myth has stopped more young players getting strong, getting faster, getting fitter, and becoming more resilient than anything else.

Without those strength years behind them, they’re more exposed to serious injury later on.

Bad technique and doing too much too soon are the actual risks.

Programmed properly, strength training builds bone density, coordination, and injury resilience — not shorter players.

Every FFC program is built age-appropriate from the start, so you’re never guessing what’s safe.

Most female footballers train the same way all year.

Same sessions. Same intensity. Same approach — whether it's July or January, pre-season or round 15.

And then they wonder why they arrive at pre-season no better than they left. Why they're fatigued by round 10. Why the players pulling away from them seem to be improving across seasons while they're staying still.

The difference is periodisation. Knowing that the off-season is for building — maximum strength, technical weaknesses, aerobic base. That pre-season is for converting — turning that fitness into football performance. That in-season is for maintaining — protecting what you built without accumulating the fatigue that kills performance by the back half of the season.

Three phases. Three completely different goals. One plan that connects them.

Inside FFC, training is periodised across the full year — so every phase builds on the last and nothing is wasted.

The most explosive players on the pitch at 18 didn't get there by accident.

They started building at 15 or 16 — quietly, consistently, without seeing dramatic results straight away. Strength first. Then power on top of it. Then patience while it compounded.

Explosiveness isn't a talent. It's a physical quality built over time through the right training in the right order. Strength gives you the force. Plyometrics teaches your body to apply it fast. And the two together — done consistently over two to three years — produce a player who moves differently to everyone around her.

At 16 you're at the perfect stage to start building it properly. Early enough that it compounds into something significant by the time you're 18. Old enough that your body can handle real power training.

The players who wish they'd started earlier always say the same thing — start now.

Inside FFC, power development is built into a complete program — progressive, age-appropriate, and connected to what actually makes you more explosive on the pitch.

The sessions that change you most don't happen at training.

They happen at 7pm on a Tuesday when nobody scheduled anything and you showed up anyway. In the backyard before dinner. At the wall before school. On the days you nearly didn't — and got up anyway.

Nobody sees that work. Nobody counts those reps. Nobody claps when you finish.

But it shows up. Every single time. In the first touch that goes exactly where it should. In the 1v1 you back yourself in when six months ago you wouldn't have. In the 85th minute when everyone else is fading and you're still going.

The gap between players almost never comes from talent. It comes from what happens on the days nobody organised anything.

What did you do today?

At 21 the strength conversation changes completely.

It's no longer about building from scratch. The foundation is there. The question now is how intelligently you manage it across a full season — and across a career.

The players who are still physically dominant at 27, 28, 29 aren't the ones who trained the hardest at 21. They're the ones who trained the smartest. Who periodised their strength alongside their football. Who never let a heavy legs session the day before a match become a habit. Who maintained consistently through the season instead of losing everything they built in pre-season by round 10.

At 21 you're also starting to accumulate real load. Seasons on top of seasons. And the injuries that end careers almost always have a history behind them — years of load that was never properly managed.

The work you do now to protect your body is the work that keeps you playing at 30.

Inside FFC, strength programming is built around exactly this stage — performance, maintenance, and the long game.

Turning up is not enough.

Every player at every level turns up. They go through the drills. They put in the time. They leave feeling like they've done something.

And then they wonder why nothing is changing.

The difference between a player who improves and one who stays the same is almost never effort. It's intention. Knowing exactly what you're working on, why it matters, and what a successful rep looks like — before the session starts.

That's what deliberate repetition means. Not more. Better.

The first touch that goes exactly where it should didn't happen by accident. It happened because someone decided — consciously, repeatedly, over months — to make it go there every single time.

That's what FFC is built around. Not just giving players sessions to complete. Giving them a clear direction so every rep counts.

Most female footballers trying to get fitter are doing the wrong thing.

Long runs. Steady pace. Comfortable enough to hold a conversation.

It feels like work. It looks like dedication. And it barely moves the needle for football fitness — because football never asks your body to work that way.

Football asks you to sprint. Recover for 30 seconds. Sprint again. Press. Recover. Sprint again. For 90 minutes.

The fitness that holds up in that environment isn't built by running laps. It's built by repeatedly pushing to high intensity, taking an incomplete recovery, and going again.

3-4 minutes of hard work. 2-3 minutes of recovery. Ten times. Twice a week. Consistently for months.

That's uncomfortable. That's the point. That's what actually changes your fitness level.

Inside FFC, endurance training is programmed around what football actually demands — not generic running plans that have nothing to do with the game.

Speed isn’t just genetic. It’s trainable — if you train it right.

Short sprints and long sprints aren’t the same thing.

Different systems, different training — and both matter if you want to actually get faster.

It’s one of the 6 pillars we train inside The Female Footballers Club, with structured sessions and progress you can actually track.

Most female footballers train one or two things and hope the rest takes care of itself.
It doesn't work like that — and it's not one-size-fits-all either.

Depending on your age, level, and training experience, you might need to weight these pillars very differently. Strength is built over years, not weeks — and it's the base everything else sits on.

If you want to sprint faster, lift heavier, jump higher, you need strength underneath it.

Depending on your age you might swap a power session for another strength session, or prioritise skills instead — it depends on where you're actually at.

Speed isn't built with cone jumps, speed ladders, or whatever else an influencer tells you will make you fast — that's not how speed actually works.

Getting faster comes down to one thing: spending real time sprinting at genuine top speed, with full recovery between reps. Cut that rest short and you've turned a speed session into another fitness session — different stimulus, different result.

Endurance isn't one generic session either. Intervals, long runs, repeated sprint work — it depends entirely on your current fitness level, which means you test it first. You don't guess it.

And recovery isn't optional. It's where all of it actually gets absorbed.

This is what a properly structured week looks like — but the real plan is the one built around you, not a generic template.

If you've got no idea what to actually focus on, join FFC.

Let's have a proper conversation and build you a plan so you're training with purpose, not wasting any more time.
