With winter still hanging around outside and a quiet schedule on the games front today, I took a moment to reflect on my year.
Due to health reasons, I hadn’t played in a few years. But when our winter team needed a few extra players this season, I put my hand up. Feeling deeply rusty and completely out of shape, I just hoped to contribute for a team mostly made up of beginners and social players—even if part of me still thought I was in my prime!
Even though we lost every game and barely scored a run all season, I honestly had the best time and actually had fun playing again. It’s been a long time since I felt that way. Just enjoying the company of my teammates and laughing with the opposition was something I’ve missed deeply. People often see me as someone who takes things way too seriously, but out there on the diamond, I could finally sit back, relax, and enjoy the game, win or lose, regardless of whether this brand grows or flops.
I know many in the baseball and softball community see my contributions as beneficial. I also recognize that others view me as a disruptor. Honestly, I wear that label as a badge of honor. I stand behind our success and what The Baseball Sock Company has achieved—including donations of our products totaling over $2,000 this summer alone, and our pioneering Pink, Pride, and Respect products. (Others have tried to copy them, but we take that as a compliment!)
I truly love these sports and have ever since I started playing at age nine. I can come across as standoffish at times, but I do that to protect a business I’ve poured so much of my time and money into. To my critics: I dare you to try it and see how long you last in this fiercely competitive industry. I don't dabble in other sports; I focus entirely on the ones I love. My family supports what I’m trying to achieve because they know, as much as I do, that I’m not doing this for accolades or recognition. I’m doing it to put smiles on faces—the same way getting back on the field this year put one on mine.
Thank you to everyone who still supports us.
