Walk #862: Hender Oval – Evans Drive Loop
🔗 https://facebook.com/events/s/walk-862-bridgewater-adelaide-/1591485212115516/
📍 Distance: Just over 5kms
🕒 Time: 1hr 15mins
🏞️ Grade: 1
🌥️ Weather: Wet, cool, but oddly not really cold
It was a fabulous walk in the rain this afternoon, very refreshing and good for the mind, body and soul! This is a nice easy walk, with the Mark Oliphant Conservation Park on both sides of the road, although today was duck weather!
The views were stunning as we walked along the top of the conservation park. It appears there has been some recent burn-off work in the area woth alot of burned bushes and trees. Some of the blackened trees looked like they had fairy lights on their branches, glittering with raindrops. It looked soooo pretty! I'm not sure it has been captured in the photos. I tried. 😔
There were quite a few puddles along Evans Drive, with one looking more like a muddy swimming pool! A sure sign we’ve had more than a few drops of rain lately.
Seven humans and one dog turned up for today’s wet walk, and we all loved it, including Scamp! So yes, winter has definitely arrived here in the Adelaide Hills. We also welcomed a new walker Vicki ALL THE WAY FROM CHRISTIE BEACH. 😮 Wow thank you for coming all that way to walk with us! 🙏
At Gate 6 we stopped for our group photo, this is our usual turning point on this walk. After a few photos we turned around and retraced our steps back along Evans Drive, then onto Scott Creek Road and back to our cars.
It was a lovely walk to finish off the day. ☺️

Walk #861: Balhannah: Mattner Road, Murray Road, Liversey Track loop
🔗 https://facebook.com/events/s/walk-861-bridgewater-adelaide-/1245213231133521/
📍 Distance: 7.5kms 🕒 Time: 1hr 45mins 🏞️ Grade: 2 🌥️ Weather: Cool, damp, with 2 tiny showers, very little wind ⛑️ AED/Snake Kit: Many thanks to Graham and Helen H 🙏
Well now, how lucky were we today?! Unbelievable! Rain and wind all night, a break with the rain and wind when we walked, then just as we arrived back at our cars, down came the rain and wind! That Rainman sure does look after us. We must be his special people! 😄

Today we welcomed back Rachel, who we haven’t seen for some years, and also a new walker, Jess. A very warm welcome to you both. We hope you enjoyed the walk and we look forward to seeing you both again soon.
Today's walk is such a picturesque walk. Along the way, friendly cows and horses came up to the fence line to say hello, there were vineyards in different stages preparing for winter, lush green paddocks, beautiful Heysen painting gums, and a well-used bush track with only one puddle and a fallen tree to navigate. There were also a couple of “slight inclines”, but who cared when the scenery was so stunning!
☕️ And of course, the mandatory post-walk café catch-up was at the Balhannah Bakery. In fact, the only time I got wet all morning was leaving the bakery to get into my car!

This post is a hard one to write.
Last week, we suddenly lost one of our beautiful walkers, Bella. Our walking group was shocked and very heartbroken to receive the news. Bella was a beautiful lady, both inside and out, and she will be dearly missed. Bella last walked with us on Mother's Day, 10 May 2026.
The BAHWG sends its love and deepest condolences to Bella’s family and friends.
I learned today from one of our walkers that our walk today in Totness was one of Bella’s favourites. It seems only fitting that today’s walk be dedicated to her memory. So now, whenever we walk this trail, we will think of Bella. We will remember this beautiful lady and how she was always dressed so immaculately, after a walk not a hair was out of place, and how incredibly knowledgeable she was. Bella brought warmth, kindness and friendship to our group. She will always be remembered.
Today’s walk is for you, Bella. ❤️
This morning’s walk was just perfect. It is such a beautiful loop, rolling green hills with farm animals grazing peacefully , native bushland, native animals, dirt roads, and stunning views. Although it was a little cool when we started, the skies were blue, the sun was shining, and it was one of those mornings that made you feel glad you put on your walking shoes and headed out the door, rather than stay curled up in a warm cosy bed.
I decided to do the walk in reverse today and forgot that reverse meant a couple of “slight inclines” on the way back, but all good because we sure know how to tackle them now! 😂
The scenery was amazing, and everything was sooooo fresh and green. It is a very pretty walk. There was a bit of mud along Totness Road, but it certainly didn’t bother us.
☕️ And of course, the obligatory post-walk café catch-up was held at the Littlehampton Market Place Café in Littlehampton, which was buzzing today.
Not a bad way to spend a morning in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. ❤️
