Flava Fitness Down South with Karen

Hi Flava Fans, it's time to let you know what's happening with the future of my Zumba classes.
This break from Covid has given me lots of time to think and reflect on the past Zumba years, and on the future. I've kept the classes going for so many years because I absolutely love teaching classes to you all, I love the buzz and the excitement and getting to see you all on a regular basis! It's been so much fun and it's of course kept us all fit and healthy.
But the reality of keeping that all going now is very different. I finally heard from The Vines last week and they are ready to open their doors again. However, in order to resume classes again there are going to be so many changes, restrictions and requirements, to the point that it's not practically or financially viable to continue 😞 I'm afraid to say it, but that's not what I signed up for with teaching Zumba..... I don't really want to take on all the extra work and responsibility, and I can't expect anyone else to volunteer their time to assist with this either, that's not what you signed up for 😉
So I have made the very sad decision to cease teaching classes for now 😞, Or rather, the universe has made the decision for me. I'm not sure if this will be forever, or just until things return back to "normal"... if that might even happen. I never imagined Covid could or would have this kind of impact on us, and I truthfully thought it might all be back to normal by the middle of the year. I haven't ruled out the idea of transitioning to online classes, but I know that's not for everyone.
All of my insurances, music licenses and First Aid/CPR have also expired during this Covid-break, so it would mean quite a financial investment to get all of them up and running again, plus my work situation at the credit union has also changed and now I'm pretty much working full time.
Bottom line is.... this all points towards the sensible decision to cease teaching classes now. My head knows it's the right thing to do, but my heart doesn't agree with this decision. But I've let my heart rule my head for too long now I think. It's not been an easy decision, I've been teaching Zumba for 10 years and group fitness for 22 - that's more than half of my life.
I am so sorry to disappoint you like this, and I hope you can find another outlet in fitness and health to give you the same buzz Zumba gave you all these years. I want to sincerely thank you all for your friendship and loyalty over all these years, as if it wasn't for you guys, I'd have been writing this letter years ago I think. I hope we can all stay connected though as I truly care about you all and want to see what's happening in your lives! And you never know, if I start classes up again I'll certainly be letting you guys know first!
For any of you that still have multi-class passes I will of course refund you for the unused classes on your card - just send me a picture of the card so I can see how many clips were done, and your BSB and account details 🙂
I'm going to miss you all, but we'll just wait and see what the future brings and you never know, we just may do Zumba again in the future one day.

Hi everyone! Just checking in with a quick update... still no word from the venue regarding when they will open again so I’m sorry I don’t have a date yet of when Zumba classes will resume.
The church haven’t even resumed their Sunday services yet so hopefully once they do that, we can start Zumba again.

Fabulous Zoom class tonight!! 🔥Thankyou 🙏 so much for joining me, hope you enjoyed the class and finished as sweaty as I did! I know virtual classes aren’t for everyone, but in the absence of our live classes it’s still great to get your bodies moving again.... and on cold 🥶 wet ☔️ wintry ⛄️ nights like tonight, it sure was great not having to leave the house!
Don’t worry if you missed it though, we’re doing it again next week, plus I’ll try and record another class soon that I can upload for you to do at a range of convenient times. 😘

Hi Flava Fans! Time for another update. As you probably heard on Friday, the Premier has not changed the restrictions yet for group fitness classes - the current limit is only for 10 people in a class, which to be honest is not enough to make it feasible. But the main issue is that our venue is still not open and I haven't been advised of a date yet when that will occur (I'm not sure they even know themselves yet!)

I was wondering about doing a Zoom virtual class next Monday night, as a trial to see how we go? I have been wondering about doing some more virtual classes through the Zumba virtual platforms and while they are very good, I'm restricted there with the songs I can teach. I know you like some of the old favourites and the non-Latin songs.... so I'd be happy to try them on Zoom.

So I'm proposing doing a Zoom live class next Monday night at 6:30PM but I think I can only do 40 minutes via that platform. Class will be free so we can give it a go? This class will be FREE and in case you're new to Zoom, you don't need a Zoom account to join in, you just click on a link I'll provide you with. Please comment if you're keen and I'll set it up! Hi everyone! Just thought I’d give you an update on classes resuming. I’ve not heard anything yet from the venue however I’m waiting until restrictions lift to more than 10 people allowed in dance/fitness classes. So please watch this space!

I haven’t had the chance to record anymore virtual classes yet as I’ve been working full-time in my other job, but let me know if you’d like me to re-post the first class we did online, or we could perhaps try a live-class on a Monday night? (I know virtual classes aren’t everyone’s thing though and that’s cool!)
