Sunday 31 May - Public Course Pennants – Round 3
North Adelaide’s three sides were all at home: Division 1 against Mawson Lakes, while Divisions 2 and 3 hosted Seaford.
Division 1
A bumpy season just got bumpier for our top side, again losing a close one to Mawson Lakes 4.5 to 3.5.
At this level of pennants experience comes dearly, and so three straight losses in the opening matches was the price paid. The last four matches were hard-fought but Mawson Lakes had the edge despite wins to Yungbok Kim (3&2), Chantha Kong (1up), Peter Stolz (1up) and a squared match for Brett Murphy.
Division 2
Another solid win today has our Div 2 side undefeated at the halfway mark of the minor round. Four wins from the first five matches to Paul Jeong (1up), Pieter de Wit (3&2), Tom Ryke (4&2) and Luis Madriz (2&1) and a squared match to Steve Draper laid a firm foundation. Two close losses kept the door ajar for the visitors, until Kelly Kim (2&1) playing at number 1, slammed it shut in the final match. The final score 5.5 to 2.5.
Division 3
The two top teams of the Southern Division met over 13 holes, and it was North Adelaide in a canter 7-1 as the selectors rotated the squad to ensure as many got their 3-game qualifying requirement as possible. It was one way traffic as Brett Heaven (4&3), Robert Berg (2&1), Threetip Wongsala (1up), Darryl Treasure (3&2), Jason Yap (4&2), Lita Nam (1up) and Brian Roberts (2up) allowed North Adelaide to edge past Seacliff at the top of the table by a point, thanks to two wins and a halved round.
No games next week due to the long weekend.

It was formally incorporated as the North Adelaide Golf Club in 1904. It later partnered with the Adelaide City Council to establish an 18-hole South Course with Council as the landholder and the Club as lease-holder. In the 1960s the 18-hole North Course was added to the complex. NAGC is acknowledged as the oldest golf club in Australia still using its original site. It was one of the first clubs

O’Connor’s Saturday ace.
A day to remember for Committeeman, John O'Connor, who scored a hole-in-one in competition on Saturday 30 May.
John, who plays off 14, launched a wedge from 80 metres out to the par 3 third hole on the North Course, which hit the left of green, bounced right, and then rolled straight into the hole.
Congratulations to John on his first hole-in-one in more than 20 years of playing golf.
It's the second in club competition THIS WEEK after Tom Ryke’s ace on Thursday… and as mentioned prior, a sure sign that our members are getting their bearings on the tight and demanding layout.

First ace on the interim North Course.
It was only a matter of time!
Congratulations to our Assistant Secretary Manager, Tom Ryke, on scoring the first hole-in-one on the interim North Adelaide 13-hole course.
Playing in the Thursday comp on 28 May, Tom used an 8-iron to find the jam jar at the fourth hole… which was playing to about 130 metres off the new alternate tee.
For Tom, who plays off 14, it’s his first ace in 33 years of golf… and a sure sign that our members are getting their bearings on the tight and demanding layout, which is also a credit to the groundstaff who’ve lifted the North Course to the best condition it has ever been in.

Sunday 24 May - Public Course Pennants – Round 2
North Adelaide’s three sides travelled further north on a chilly and wet morning: Division 1 at Mawson Lakes, while North Haven hosted Divisions 2 and 3.
Division 1
Tough going with some close results at Mawson Lakes, with our side a shade behind at 2.5 to 3.5 through the first six matches. The final two matches both went the distance but unfortunately went against us by the smallest possible margin. The final score 5.5 to 2.5, with good wins to Barry Smith (3&2) and Abbasi Mchwala (3&1).
Division 2
At North Haven, an equally close contest but a better result for the Red Shirts, 4.5 to 3.5.
Skipper, Ian George led from the front, with a solid 5&4 win, backed up by Jeong-Ae Choi (2&1), Mi Park (2&1) and Damwon Kim (4&3). Special mention to John O’Connor who was down dormie 4 in his match until he reeled off wins on every remaining hole to square his match.
Division 3
Honours were shared 4-all between the sides as wind and rain lashed the course across the late morning. The sides were 2-all through the first 4 matches thanks to Robert Berg (6&4) and Threetip Wongsala (4&2). Two losses in the middle order were offset by wins to Peter Adams (5&4) and Zak Baig (6&5) to save the draw.
We come home next week as Div 1 hosts Mawson Lakes seeking to atone for today’s result, while Divisions 2 and 3 will sharpen up their short games in preparation to host Seacliff.
Good luck to all.
In the debate (and sadly the unrest) that has cast an unwelcome shadow over the upgrading of North Adelaide Golf Course, critics have also sought to demean the game and those of us who play it, as trivial and facile.
Hence it was refreshing to hear Aaron Rai, reflecting on his triumph in a major championship, the US PGA, articulate so well the lessons that golf has taught him, and indeed to us all who embrace the challenge of the game with every round we play…
