UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT with Emma Brennan, head coach of Seacliff Aerobic Gymnastics

10 things Iโ€™ve learned in 10 years of coaching

๐Ÿค Working with people is a privilege. Let gratitude co-exist with all other emotions.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ Ask questions, ask for help, be grateful, and pay it forward.

๐Ÿ’™ Do everything with authenticity. People participate in sport because there is something about it that they love, and so we may think that the sport is what connects us. But itโ€™s not about the sport - itโ€™s about what it makes us feel.

๐ŸŒฑ Know and acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses. We always have more to learn, but be confident in what you know too!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Check in with people. If you think something isnโ€™t okay, you may be right. Trust your gut, and be brave. You may be the only person who says anything, and you can guide someone in the right direction to feeling better. Isnโ€™t this what coaching is after all?

๐Ÿ’ช Hard things take practice. Your athletes work on hard things all the time, but to grow, you have to do hard things too. If you can feel it, youโ€™re growing.

๐ŸŒŸ You're going to make mistakes. Always try your best, think things through, and seek advice, but remember that you are human and life is complicated, so you're going to make mistakes. Be confident in acknowledging when youโ€™ve tried your best and it wasnโ€™t enough. Sometimes learning hurts, but the most important thing is that you try to make it better for everyone next time.

๐Ÿ”„ Be not only willing to change, but excited to make changes!

๐Ÿก It takes a village. This is about your athletes and about you. You cannot be everything for your athletes - they need a network of support to learn from and lean on. This goes for coaches too. We are all stronger, happier, and can give more when weโ€™re connected.

โœจ Have awe. Look up to people, tell people you appreciate them, and let yourself look through a lens of awe because this helps everyone flourish.

Seacliff Aerobic Gymnastics program sprouted from grounds of aspiration and love. Thank you everyone who has helped tend to our garden! ๐ŸŒธ

Our brand new centre videos are completed :-) ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

In March 2026, we proudly completed our centre video project, made possible thanks to the City of Holdfast Bay Recreation & Wellbeing Community Donations 2024โ€“2025 grant. This support allowed us to bring a long-held vision to life.

The journey to completion took several months of planning and coordination. With six busy groups involvedโ€”each managing their own schedulesโ€”locking in filming dates was no small task. There were plenty of moving parts, reschedules, and last-minute adjustments, but through persistence and collaboration, everything came together. Filming was ultimately completed over two half days.

Weโ€™re absolutely thrilled with the result. The final videos beautifully bring together multiple groups, creating a seamless and engaging story that truly captures the spirit, energy, and community of our centre.

A special thank you to Lennon from Flix Productions, who went above and beyond throughout the entire process. His professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to adapt to our ever-changing schedule made all the difference.

These videos will play an important role in showcasing our fantastic facilities and the diverse range of activities we offer, across both our website and social media channels.

Here is the first one to be released (more to come over the next few weeks) can you spot yourselves in them? Let us know!
