🌊 The iconic ocean swim is coming back to Henley once again!

The Masters Swimming Australia team are looking for a few extra hands to help make it happen.

If being part of an organising committee sounds like your second nature - or you simply enjoy getting stuck in and making good things happen - get in touch with the team by Friday.

It’s a pretty great event to have on our beach, and we’d love to see it return. 💙

Masters Swimming needs your help. The Jetty 2 Jetty Open Water swim is the biggest swim on the Masters Swimming calendar, has a great history, and needs a team of people to make it run well.

Lifesavers with Pride

Matteo Simone has been part of Henley for 42 years, after first joining as a Nipper at the age of 12.

He was introduced to the club by his long-time friend and fellow Life Member Greg Fletcher. Matteo remembers getting his SRC, learning surf skills, making friends and spending as much time as he could at the club.

“It was a great place to grow and learn.”

Since then, Matteo has been involved in pretty much every part of club life - patrolling, surf sports, age groups, carnivals, committees and plenty of jobs behind the scenes. He has clocked up more than 700 patrol hours, been a Patrol Captain and travelled to more than 15 Australian Titles.

One of his favourite memories is competing at the 1986 Aussie Titles at Moana as a Cadet, where he made the beach sprint and beach relay finals.

Now, after 42 years, we asked Matteo what he enjoys most about Henley.

“Everyone pitched in for our 100 year celebrations in varying ways. That unity and club spirit is what I enjoy the most.”

It’s also something he hopes continues into the future, particularly keeping young members connected as they move from Nippers through to Seniors.

And his advice to anyone thinking about giving Henley a go?

“It’s a great club to be part of with great support and opportunity. I’d also suggest bring a friend, the more the merrier!”
