We caught up with 5* eventer and local South Aussie Sarah Clark Equestrian to chat about why she rides with Peppermint Fred.

"Carrying my Peppermint Fred when I compete has come to mean a great deal to me, especially when riding overseas.

I feel Gill is such a huge part of our Eventing heritage in Australia, particularly in growing the Adelaide Equestrian Festival into the world class 5* it has become. I wouldn’t be able to chase my dreams from around the country to around the world without this event to inspire and prepare me, and it simply wouldn’t be what is it without Gill.

I am thankful to her for all she has done for our sport, and carrying my Peppermint Fred is my way of remembering and appreciating her huge contributions. Especially when I’m overseas, I consider Peppermint Fred to be a big part of my identity as an Australian rider chasing dreams, as Gill herself was and as she helped many of us to be.

Did you know that Equestrian is the only sport at the Olympics where men and women compete directly against each other? 🐴
Although the boys have come out on top of the podium more often than women in our CCI5* class, we've had some very impressive women winners including local SA heroes Megan Jones and Wendy Schaeffer, and three-time winner (on the same horse to make it even more impressive!), Hazel Shannon! 🏆
