Rest & Recovery
~
There is a crucial link between recovery and results! It's not just about how hard we train, but also about how effectively we manage fatigue.

Without proper rest, we risk sliding into a training slump, resulting in increased stress, decreased appetite, poor sleep quality, and greater susceptibility to illness.

|| Performance = Fitness - Fatigue ||
It's a delicate balance. Results aren't solely determined by how hard we train, but also by how much we can recover. By managing fatigue through effective recovery strategies, we can maximize the outcome of our training.

|| Recovery = Restoration & Results ||

So what is recovery? It’s more than just an excuse to relax and be lazy. It's about restoring the body to a healthy state. This involves returning physiological markers to normal levels and replenishing psychological traits like mood.

Here's how we optimize our recovery routine:

- Passive rest: Encourage quality sleep (8+ hours) to recharge

- Smart training plan: Design your training schedule to balance intensity and volume to avoid burnout

- Tissue work: Incorporate mobility exercises, rolling or massage to release tension and enhance recovery

- Hot/ Cold therapies: Explore hot and cold therapies to soothe sore muscles and reduce inflammation

- Active recovery: Engage in light exercises, or gentle stretching to promote blood flow and aid in muscle recovery.

By promoting fast and effective recovery, results from training are amplified, paving the way for quicker progression and enhanced performance.

Recovery isn't a luxury – it's a necessity for optimal results. By treating it as indispensable components of your training regimen, we set the stage for unparalleled success.

Age and athleticism: while youth is typically associated with peak physical dominance, aging doesn't necessarily equate to a decline in fitness. Sure, our bodies undergo changes over time, but it's important to recognize that lifestyle choices play a significant role in shaping our health.

In reality, we face new challenges such as work commitments, family responsibilities, and other demands on our time and energy. It's crucial to understand, this decline in activity is not solely due to aging but a result of our lifestyle.

The good news is that we can defy this decline through consistent training. All we have to do is adjust our training methods to suit our changing needs and we can continue to excel physically well into later life. This might involve focusing on aspects such as recovery or more flexibility.

Moreover, it's essential to recognize that staying active goes beyond just maintaining athleticism—it's crucial for our overall health and well-being. Numerous studies have shown that regular exercise can reduce the risk of chronic diseases, improve cognitive function, and enhance our quality of life. By prioritizing our physical fitness, we lay the groundwork for a healthier, more fulfilling life.

So, if you find yourself feeling less mobile than you were in years past, don't chalk it up to age alone. Instead, take a closer look at your lifestyle habits. Are you giving your body the exercise and movement it needs to thrive? Make a commitment to stay active and prioritize your health, you can reclaim your athleticism and enjoy the benefits of a vibrant, active life at any age.

MEET THE COACH!!

Fun fact about me! I originally studied marine biology following high school, while working part-time as a rowing coach. It was through this time I found joy in working with athletes and helping them reach success.

In 2020, I made the decision to complete my cert 4 in fitness. After which I worked across commercial gyms, taking care of clients from all levels. Soon after, I took the role of head coach for the West Beach SLSC and led crews of all divisions to see great results. I continue in that position today, learning new techniques in weightlifting and CrossFit to see ongoing success in my athletes.

I take great satisfaction seeing my clients thrive as they work towards success, whether it's learning new movements, living life injury & pain-free or simply enjoying the process. It's this loves for coaching that drives me to continue my education, to ensure you receive the best help along the way!
