This yearβs theme for Reconciliation Week is βAll Inβ β a powerful call for everyone to commit to reconciliation every single day through our actions, conversations, and community. As a club, we recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey and a commitment we make every day.
To show our respect for and commitment to reconciliation, we commissioned the wonderful artist Katie Gribble, known as Kookaburra Dreaming on Instagram, to design a custom bib for Wildfire Netball Club. Katie is an Arabana and Barngarla woman living on Ngadjuri Country. After sharing the story of our club with her, she created this incredible artwork that we are proud and excited to wear.
The artwork beautifully reflects our club and community. The circles represent our meeting places β our club, where we train, and where we play. The spirals symbolise growth, learning, and the development of new skills. The local waterways of the Little Para River and Adamβs Creek flow throughout the design, grounding the artwork in the land on which we gather. The U-shapes represent our players and the wider community that supports and surrounds our club.
This Wednesday and Friday, we will proudly take the court for our Reconciliation Week games. Before each game, there will be a Smoking Ceremony and a speech by Ruby. If you have the time, we would love to see our supporters there as we come together to support Wildfire Netball Club and our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
