TRUST THE SYSTEM!

The expectations you place on yourself are actually killing your progress.

One of my most dedicated clients came to me and asked me to help her lose weight.

And that's exactly what I did.
I helped her lose weight.

But the methods we use here went totally against everything she'd tried in the past, read about, and heard from others.
She expected the results to come slowly and painfully.

For the first couple of weeks there was a little disbelief, verging on cynicism about how we were going about her weight-loss journey.

Fast forward to now.
Every bit of what we do in the gym, is exactly what she needed.
She needed to feel strong.
She needed to feel like she was making advances.
She needed to see exactly what was happening and how things were working.

And she couldn't be happier.

NUMBER 1 DE-STRESSING TECHNIQUE -LET GO!

Stress is a killer.

Killer of progress
Killer of sleep
Killer of action taking
Killer of lives

But when we sit back and think about all that causes us stress and anxiety, what do we find more often than not?

What we stress most about is that which we cannot control.

Let go of things
Let go of people
Let go of situations
Let go of that which you cannot control

Something we all need to remember.
And something I'm sure we all struggle with.

We are our own unique beings, with our own unique gifts, attributes and offerings to the world.

The more we remember and use those gifts and attributes, the more and more we follow our own authentic path, and be the unique being that we are.

The thoughts, actions and beliefs of others are just that, they belong to others.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, everyone is entitled to their point of view.

But those views and opinions are no reflection on us, and should have no bearing on what we believe about ourselves.

Remember who you are, see yourself through your own eyes, look at everything you have to offer.

Self compassion is something we not only promote but also teach here.

One way of dealing with our anxieties is being compassionate towards ourselves rather than critical.

Lets look at an example.
A young man who suffers from anxiety plucks up enough courage to attend a party.
After standing around by himself for half an hour, he leaves.

Many anxiety sufferers would probably ask themselves
"What's wrong with me?"
"Why do I find it so hard to talk to people? Everyone else can do it."

This critical inner voice can make you feel ashamed of your worries, thoughts and yourself.
The young man could end up going over the night and beating himself up over it.

Or he could look at it another way.

Maybe this critical inner voice could soften.
"You put yourself in an extremely uncomfortable position. I'm proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone."
"You gave it a go, and did your best. I'm proud of you."

Notice the difference?

Letting go.
It's something we all need to do, yet most of us fail at doing it.

Why?

The stress of continually trying to change something we have no control over is enough to make us sick, anxious and just down right miserable.

Let go of those things you can't change.
Embrace those things you can change and can do

This is why I love what I do.

It's not just about the weight loss or strength gains.
Though that is a big part of what we do.

For me it's all about everything else that comes with it too.

The confidence.
The movement without pain.
The improved relationships.
The overcoming of obstacles life throws at you.
The happiness.

This amazing young lady has gained all of these things and more.

Who else needs all of these things?

We all have said the words
"I wish things could be different........"
"I wish I could do this........."
"I wish I could do that........."

The thing is, there's no need to wish.

Each and every one of us has the power to change.
Whether it's our environment, the people we keep around us, the way we live, the way we think, the way we feel, the way we look, the way we move.

Use that power, make the changes, make your life what you want it to be.

The power is in your hands.

What do you do when you're put in uncomfortable situations?

Do you run and hide?
Do you make the most of it?
Do you use it to build up some resilience?
Or do you throw your hands in the air and say "f**k it, I'm out"?

Unfortunately Annabel had a trip to the hospital yesterday.
She's all ok, but she wasn't comfortable at all.

But she made the most of it, explored her surroundings and enjoyed herself (and her icy pole!)

All too often we stress too much over things that are out of our control, whether it's people, environments or situations.

So what's the lesson?

Control what you can, and let go of those things which you can't.
