Brother Howard Memorial LD Race

The Brother Howard Memorial LD Race will be held this Sunday the 20th of September at Aquatic Reserve, West Lakes.

Entry fees are the same as previous years and other club LD races:

$20 per single athlete
$30 per family

First start will be at 9:00am and there will be 6/12/18km races.

Registration will be open at 8:00 with the pre-race briefing at 8:45.

Racing will be held over the 6km “Y-course” from the basin of Aquatic Reserve, to the western Bartley Tavern Footbridge, around the point of Delfin Island, to the eastern Corcoran Reserve Footbridge and back to the club (refer to the attached course map).

Paddlers can compete in male, female or mixed categories in U14, U16, U18, Open or various Masters age divisions.

Entries will be accepted in the following boats:

– Kayak (K)
– Touring Kayak (TK)
– Recreational Kayak (RK) – including Sea Kayak
– Canadian Canoe (C)
– Touring Canoe (TC)
– Para Canoe (PC)
– Outrigger (OR)
– Surf Ski (SS) – including Ocean Racers
– Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP)
– Any other single or double bladed paddling craft (Other)

The race will also incorporate the PSA LD Doubles State Titles and to qualify for the title the following criteria must be met:

– Race in an international standard double Kayak (K2) or double Canoe (C2)
– U14 athletes and younger will race for one lap (6km)
– U16 athletes will race for two laps (12km)
– U18, Open and V35 athletes will race for three laps (18km)
– V45 to V65 athletes will race for two laps (12km)
– V70 and older athletes will race for one lap (6km)

Paddle SA is conducting an Assessors Forum on Saturday 10th October at West Lakes.

The forum has the following aims:

• To present the current version of the Paddle Australia Qualifications Scheme (PAQS)
• To present changes that are planned for the PAQS
• To discuss issues that SA assessors have with the PAQS
• To workshop the teaching of selected kayak, canoe or SUP skills; i.e get on the water and have a paddle!

Mark Thurgood the Paddle Australia Participation & Training Manager will attend this forum and give the latest information on the PAQS and national level developments.

Guide and Instructor Qualifications
Paddle SA is running a Leadership Course for guide and instructor qualifications.
The course is conducted over three days, Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th September, 2026.
Registering in the training course can be made online via the Paddle Australia website or by contacting Paddle SA.

Trevor Gallard Memorial

This Sunday 16th August is the Trevor Gallard Memorial Marathon hosted by Encounter Paddling club, and incorporating state singles titles.

Registration will be from 8.15am -8.45am with first start for championship course at 9am.
$20pp or $30 family.

Short course option for those not wanting to do the state titles distance.

The Torrens Island Race is on again this year!
