This time last year, I’d called my final NBL1 Central game of the season.

Twelve months later, the Kayo Game of the Week team is preparing for next weekend’s NBL1 Central Grand Finals, alongside commentary legend John Casey at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

This season has been full of moments I’ll always cherish. From being invited to the Norwood Flames Basketball Club and Eastern Mavericks DBC season launch events, to now looking forward to hosting interviews at the West Adelaide Basketball Club Bearcats 80th Gala next month.

Adding sideline reporting to this year’s Kayo broadcasts has also given me the opportunity to build stronger relationships with coaches and players throughout the season, and that’s been one of the highlights.

It’s also been exciting to witness the continued growth of NBL1 Central. The depth of talent across the league, the quality of the competition, and the passion shown by every club continue to raise the bar. We really are privileged to witness some exceptional athletes and people week after week.

To everyone involved in this incredible competition—players, coaches, officials, staff, volunteers, families and supporters—thank you. Your generosity, encouragement and kindness have made this season one I’ll never forget.

Good luck to everyone involved in next weekend’s Grand Finals.

I love this game, and I never take for granted the opportunities it continues to provide or the people who make our basketball community so special. 🏀♥️🏀

☕️ NEW EPISODE | Rio Bruton & Cal Bruton

Some basketball journeys follow a straight path. Others are shaped by setbacks, resilience and the people who believe in you.

This week on Courtside Coffee Catch-Up, South Adelaide Panthers guard and Brisbane Bullets Development Player Rio Bruton reflects on the journey that’s brought him to this point, while his grandfather, NBL Hall of Famer Cal Bruton, shares stories, laughs and the lessons that have been passed through generations.

From missing state team selection to earning a place at the NBA Academy Games and signing with the Brisbane Bullets, Rio’s story is a reminder that persistence matters.

More importantly, this is a conversation about family, connection and the relationships that shape who we become.

A huge thank you to Rio and Cal for sharing your stories and to Game Ready for welcoming us into your space.

As a former player, First Nations Round was always one of Renai Fejo’s favourite fixtures of the season.

Now, she continues to work with NBL1 Central to help ensure it remains a meaningful celebration of culture, connection and community.

To honour 50 years of NAIDOC, NBL1 Central brought together clubs, artists and media for a special event at the new Port Adelaide Aboriginal Cultural Centre marking the beginning of this year’s celebrations.

Podcast done... but we couldn’t leave without a little fun on the GAMEREADY PERFORMANCE court. 🏀☕️

Calvin Bruton still has the touch, knocking down the free throw before dishing an assist to Grandson Rio Bruton for the dunk.

Some things never change – the love of the game and a little Bruton family magic.
