SUMMER HOCKEY ☀️ 🏑

The annual summer hockey competition run at West beach is back this summer. Starting on November 1st and running for six weeks until the last game on December 6th.

As in previous years, there will be two competitions:
Family friendly division - Designed to create a more supportive and safe environment for juniors, making it ideal for parents and children to play together.
Open division - A move competitive environment, for players aged 15 and up.

If you are interested in playing summer hockey in either competition but are not currently part of a team, you can also complete the jotform below and we will enquire if you can join an existing team on your behalf.

Adelaide University Hockey Club is excited to announce the appointment of Fred Notman as our Premier League Women’s Coach for the 2027 season.

Fred brings an impressive coaching background across Premier League, state and national high-performance programs, along with a strong track record of developing players at the elite level.

His recent coaching experience includes serving as Premier League Women’s Head Coach at North East Hockey Club, Assistant Coach of the Adelaide Fire in 2024 and a coach on the Australia Futures camp in 2025.

His contribution to South Australian hockey was recognised in 2024 when Fred received Hockey SA’s Margaret McKenzie Premier League Women’s Coach of the Year award. He was also a 2024 recipient of the Kuhl Family Scholarship, supporting the professional development of coaches and their continued contribution to hockey in South Australia.

Fred is already part of the AUHC family having previously been an import player for our Premier League men in 2018 and 2019 and more recently part of our M2M premiership winning team.

Fred’s combination of elite coaching credentials, Hockey One experience, involvement in performance pathways and existing connection to AUHC makes him an exciting appointment to lead our women’s program.

We’re thrilled to have Fred take the reins of our Premier League Women in 2027 and look forward to seeing what he and the group can achieve together.

JUNIOR HOCKEY - COME AND TRY SESSIONS

Across 6 weeks in November and December, AUHC will be holding come and try junior hockey sessions, these sessions are open to juniors of all age groups and abilities and best of all they are FREE!

The sessions will be on Thursday nights @5-6pm (starting November 5th) at the West beach hockey centre.

Check out some actions of AUHC members representing South Australia Masters teams in the 2026 Hockey Australia Men's and Women's Masters Championship! The competition is being held on the Gold Coast for the men's and in Adelaide for the women's. Wish them the best and keep an eye out for more action in the upcoming games!

We’re excited to announce James Humphries as Adelaide University Hockey Club’s Director of Hockey and Premier League Men’s Coach for 2027! 🖤💜

James brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to AUHC, having been involved in hockey at an elite club level for more than a decade.

After beginning his Premier League career with Footscray Hockey Club in Melbourne at just 16, James moved to South Australia for university in 2016. He went on to play Premier League Men for Adelaide Hockey Club for 11 years, winning three premierships during his time with the club. His playing career also saw him selected as a squad member for the Adelaide Fire in 2024, following involvement in SA Hotshots and Adelaide Fire training programs in previous years.

James’ coaching journey began at junior level in Geelong in 2014 before continuing after his move to Adelaide. He transitioned into senior coaching in 2019 and has since coached across a range of club and school programs, including Scotch College and Pembroke School, where he most recently served as Head Coach of the Open A Girls.

James is also no stranger to AUHC, having spent two years coaching our Premier League Women, giving him a strong understanding of our club, our players and the culture we are continuing to build.

He has represented the University of Adelaide at University Games/Varsity as both a player and coach on four occasions, further strengthening his connection to university hockey.

We’re incredibly excited to have James step into this expanded leadership role, overseeing the development and direction of hockey across AUHC while taking the reins of our Premier League Men’s program for 2027.

Congratulations to Barry Cibich on being awarded the Hockey Australia Award of Merit!

Barry’s outstanding playing career, including representing Australia and winning bronze at the 1978 World Cup, is matched by his significant contribution to coaching and player development. His coaching journey has included the Australian Institute of Sport, the Kookaburras and international appointments in Scotland. At Adelaide University Hockey Club, Barry coached our Premier League Women’s team between 2009 and 2018 and, in 2011, was recognised as Hockey SA’s Margaret McKenzie Award – Premier League Women’s Coach of the Year. We are incredibly proud of Barry and his lasting contribution to hockey, both at Adelaide University Hockey Club and beyond.

🏆Grand Finals Recap 🏆🖤💜 As the grand final weekend for the Metro League comes to an end, we want to take a moment to recognise all the hard work from all four teams who fought their best, and congratulate Metro 2 Men and Metro 6 Men on earning their premier flags! 🚩 We also want to express our gratitude to all the club members, family, and friends who made it out to support AUHC teams and members, with the cheers and encouragement that fueled our players!
