Great service

It’s finally happening!

The first Repair Cafe Surf Coast event for the year is on this Sunday at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall — and we’re ready to get fixing!

One small change for 2026,
⏰ We’ll be finishing at 1pm (not 2pm), which means last repairs will kick off no later than 12:30pm.

Previously, we've asked our volunteers to arrive at 9am to set up and finish after 2pm, after everything is packed away, which makes for a very long Sunday 😅 I'm sure you won't begrudge this tweak to help keep things a little more humane.

So if you've got a stubborn toaster, a sad lamp or a chair that’s seen better days? Bring it along early and let’s give it a second chance 💚

See you Sunday!

We’ve all seen the forecast, and it’s shaping up to be a very hot long weekend here on the Surf Coast.

Just because recent fires may have been elsewhere, it doesn’t mean the risk isn’t here. Fires can start anywhere — coastal heath, bush blocks, roadside grass or near campsites — and when conditions are right, they can move fast.

With locals, visitors and campers in the area, a few timely reminders 👇

If you’re travelling, camping or holidaying locally:
• Download the VicEmergency app and set your watch zone to Aireys Inlet or where you’re staying
• Know your routes in and out — especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area
• Be aware some local roads are narrow, winding and heavily treed
• Avoid back roads unless you know them well
• Stick to main roads where possible — they’re the safest option in an emergency

Campfires:
• Even if it’s not a Total Fire Ban day, ask yourself if you really need one - Update- 🚫🔥STATEWIDE TOTALFIRE BAN FOR ALL DISTRICTS SATURDAY 24 JANUARY
• If you light it, you own it — never leave it unattended
• If you’re staying near town, maybe skip the fire and support a local pub or café instead

If you’re staying home:
• Take a moment to review your Bushfire Survival Plan
• Think carefully about travel — heavy traffic on the Great Ocean Road during an emergency isn’t where anyone wants to be

Managing the heat:
• Drink plenty of water
• Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day
• Check in on vulnerable neighbours, friends and family
• Don’t forget your pets and livestock

We always finish these posts with “stay safe”, but really that just means thinking ahead and making good calls. We love this place — the coastline, the bush and the community that calls it home. Let’s look after it, and each other, this long weekend.

If you’ve got questions or concerns, feel free to message us.
