It was 2018, and I had already been a yoga teacher for two years. I was teaching as many classes as I could to gain more experience, and I was loving it!
I had struggled with a dodgy neck for quite a while (still do, iykyk), and it was as though I was being forced to slow down, and take a different approach to my practice, and life.
A lot of us really struggle to slow down in our fast-paced modern world, and I was no exception to this unspoken rule.
Sometimes we keep ourselves perpetually busy because we are too afraid to face ourselves, and the thought of slowing right down in a yin yoga class can actually be quite confronting.
Insert Yin Yoga Here.
There are gifts to be revealed when you are alone with your body, breath, mind, and energy, if you allow yourself to move through the discomfort of it.
If you’ve ever done a yin yoga practice before, you’ll know what I mean when I say that the feeling of deep long holds, a deep, rhythmic, hypnotic breath, feeling the subtle pulsation of your life-force, and the blissed-out ‘yin stoned’ feeling you receive from a yin class is like whole magic of its own.
And so I fell in love with this practice, and decided I wanted to learn more about it, and share it with others.
I had completed my Level 1 training with My Health, and I knew that they offered a Yin training as well. I was curious, and thought it was probably time for some more continued education. So I enrolled and went on a deep dive into the wonderful world of yin.
The further along I travelled into my own practice, and into my teaching career, the more gentle and subtle the practices became. I got to a point in my own practice where I did not need challenging asana to experience cultivation and movement of energy in my system.
My personal practice now consists of Qi Gong, Yin Yoga, Taoist and gentle Yoga practices, and this is where the focus of my teaching and training is heading too.
After being in a car accident and experiencing nervous system dysregulation as a result, I stopped teaching dynamic asana and I now specialise in all things yin yoga.
It is my absolute joy and life’s work to share the gifts of this practice with others. And now I have the opportunity to train new yin yoga teachers, who will share it with their communities.
The ripple effect of this is moving.
All of this is to say that yin yoga is amazing, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you probably should.
I feel like there is a quiet movement of people becoming more open to these less sexy, more subtle styles of practice, and I’m here for it!
If you’re feeling the quiet call from within to deepen your practice, or to become a yin yoga teacher, I’d love to invite you to join me for the upcoming Yin Yoga Teacher Training, kicking off on September 5th in Airlie Beach.
It’s a 6 module course that will take you on a journey through the world of Yin.
