I used to do a lot of ambient recording - especially beaches and in bushland. When times were tough I sold off my recording rig and put my energy into other things. Recently I started again recording and putting together a new kit starting with the SoundDevices Mixpre-6. Some special Schoeps microphones (MSTC 64 U ORTF) are on their way and provide a realistic spacial reproduction that closely replicates human hearing. Here is a vid that was done using this microphone (and others) in a highly creative way: (listen in stereo)
