Onda Jiujitsu Academy

Last week, we celebrated a very special milestone at our little academy as the first group of kids who joined us from day one received their new belts.

These kids have worked incredibly hard and earned every inch of their promotions. We are extremely proud of their dedication, consistency and the way they continue to represent our academy.

More importantly, we hope the lessons they have learned through achieving these belts - discipline, resilience, respect and accountability - are lessons they carry with them off the mats as well.

They are setting the standard and naturally developing into leaders within the academy. They are respectful, well behaved and hardworking. They understand how to train safely with newer students, giving them the opportunity to learn and grow, while also knowing when to push one another and hold each other accountable.

We could not be prouder of the young martial artists and people they are becoming.

JOSH SHIPTON JUDO FOR JIU JITSU WORKSHOP

We’re excited to welcome the incredibly talented Josh “Hip Toss Josh” Shipton to Onda Jiu Jitsu Academy!

Josh has built an impressive competition résumé in a short time and most recently podiumed at the ADCC Oceania Trials. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s rising grapplers.

This workshop will replace our regular Wednesday classes and will focus on Judo for Jiu Jitsu, covering practical throws, entries and takedown concepts that transfer directly to both Gi and No-Gi.

While it's still not something you see at every academy, we're proud to offer our young students the opportunity to learn from two experienced coaches who are passionate about helping every child grow, both on and off the mats.

QJJC State Championships 🥋

This weekend marked the first time our little club from Albany Creek competed at the Queensland State Championships, and what a day it was!

We took a team of just 6 athletes - 1 adult and 5 kids - and couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

A huge congratulations to our competitors and a big thank you to everyone who helped in the lead-up, as well as to all of our parents who made the trip to the Gold Coast. It was a special milestone for our club to see our kids step onto the mats at Queensland’s biggest BJJ event, challenge themselves, and put their hard work to the test.

Win, lose or draw, every athlete showed courage, growth and huge improvements in their jiu-jitsu. That’s what this journey is all about.

We were also fortunate enough to bring home some medals:

And a special mention to Hunter, who showed the heart, grit and determination we’ve come to expect from him. He left everything out on the mats, and we’re incredibly proud of his effort.

Thank you to everyone who represented Onda with humility, sportsmanship and courage. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see our other students compete for their first time also. 💙🖤🥋

Friends from day one.

One of the greatest gifts jiu-jitsu has given us is lifelong friendships. We hope our students build the same strong bonds and create memories that last well beyond the mats.
