Wednesday 15th

36 players came down to enjoy the fantastic sunny Winter’s afternoon of Social Bowls on the A Green. We welcomed our new member Cathy Burges for her first time joining us in the quest for the coveted yellow envelopes.

There was a slight breeze to begin with but it dropped off for the second game, making for a very pleasant afternoon of three bowl triples. In an interesting twist, the teams were decided via the popstick method, with three 2 game winners – with first and second place being decided on a countback.

3rd Place: Noel Skinner, Jeff Sims & Wendy Faithfull 2 + 1
2nd Place: Geoff Hornibrook, Jim Hull, Di Pooley & Leonie Van Heeren 2 + 12
WINNERS: Harvey Waddell, Janine Hanson & Cathy Burges 2 + 12

See you on Friday for Social Bowls (weather permitting) and for party pies, sausage rolls and the Club Draw (regardless of the weather!!)

Friday 10th

A good turnout of 46 players for our Social Bowls today on the B Green. What started out as a pleasant Winter’s afternoon soon turned into a challenging one, as the wind got colder and stronger, and the green got quicker! It was lovely to welcome Anthony Wilkinson, Adrian’s son who is visiting from Victoria, and also to see Lee and Yvonne Davison back bowling with us. Thanks to the Ladies Match Committee – Di Pooley, Trina Lysaught and Olivia Linden for doing the draw for Social Bowls today. Only two 2 game winners today. We were all very appreciative of the hot chips to warm our hands and insides with!

Greenkeeper John Hanson has asked that if you are having a roll up on A Green to please use the further rinks and keep off rinks 1,2 & 3 as they are being overused and we need to wear the green evenly.

Don’t forget the Xmas in July Social Bowls in 2 weeks time – wear your best Christmas outfit to win a prize and come along and have some fun, and Christmas cake for afternoon tea. See the flyer on the board for more information or see Janine.

Please make sure you check the boards near the Ladies Office or near the television on the wall for other flyers regarding events and information happening around the Club and in Albany – lots of good stuff going on – too much to mention here!

President Steve Faulkner – glad to say now fully recovered from his eye operation only to find that his long distance vision needs no adjustment and his short distance vision needs a visit to Specsavers pronto!! He’s still a one eyed Eagles supporter though!!

Many thanks to Ros and Trevor Holdman and Lyn Brown for providing the party pies and sausage rolls tonight – very yummy and appreciated with this chilly weather.

Well done to Frank and the fellas who represented us at Kojonup last weekend in the Tri-Series and for giving us a good start in the first leg – let’s hope we keep it up in the next one at Mt Barker on the 19th of this month.

Thanks to Ken Richardson-Newton for holding the fort and trying to keep us all under control while Steve was away – it’s a tough job and big shoes to fill but someone’s got to do it!

There are new green can and bottle bins on all of the greens to help prevent cups and rubbish from making their way into items that go to Containers for Change. W**e bottles are also able to be added in to these bins now so that will also mean more money for the Club Thanks to John Hanson for sourcing these from Containers for Change at no cost.

One of our new First Aid boxes has now been installed in the storeroom where the mats and jacks are stored. A sign has been installed above the doorway to make everyone aware.

In case you missed it – the final tally from the Club Card Day on Tuesday May 26th.
This was the 40th Card Day held at the Club (it has been going since 1998) and raised a total of $2,298.60. This brings the total raised since Card Day began to $50,141.43.
Well done to Glenys Hemley and her team of helpers who do such a good job organising this event, setting up, serving the lunch and packing everything up again.

Lynne Danks sent me this lovely photo of Kevin Williams catching some rays and some zzzzz's in his chair - lovely dreams of all your toucher bowls Kevin!
