Albany Takes Out Top WA Destination!
Albany has been named runner up in Wotif.com's 2019 Aussie Town of the Year Awards, a close second to Port Fairy in Victoria and the only Western Australian town to make the list.
The Australian booking website ranks destinations across the country based on accommodation affordability, tourist demand and traveller reviews.
The recognition of Albany’s rise in popularity has been attributed in part to the phenomenal success of the Field of Light; Avenue of Honour installation, which has exceeded all visitor projections, together with a the opportunity to showcase the region’s heritage and pristine natural attractions to new visitors.
The announcement has been warmly received by the Board of the region’s local tourism organisation, The Amazing South Coast, as an endorsement of the region’s growing popularity. Board spokesperson, Michael Cole said;
“We are delighted that Albany has been recognised in this year’s Wotif Aussie Town of the Year awards and the opportunity that this presents to showcase all of the amazing experiences in our region.”
“The Field of Light: Avenue of Honour has been a huge attraction so far with more than 80,000 visitors and will remain open until Anzac Day. Summer and Autumn are ‘event season’ on the Amazing South Coast and the perfect time to take a road trip south for incredible scenery, great attractions and award-winning wines.”
Mr Cole said the award was a credit to the many local tourism operators and service providers who make Albany and The Amazing South Coast a welcoming and friendly destination to visit.

How good has it been to feel the sun on your skin these last few days?
It feels like spring may have finally arrived in Albany. While we are currently still seeing whales on our morning whale watch tours, we are also are getting ready to release our summer cruise program.
We would love to hear what your favourite summer tours and cruises have been on board Sail-A-Way in the past and anything you might like to suggest for the future.
Don't hold back 🙂🐳
Have you heard the news?
John is back!
John Farnham? For ANOTHER last time?
No! John Woodbury!!
BUT I'm sensing a common theme 🙂
We are very pleased to announce that John and Forrest will be back at the helm this Saturday and Sunday. So head down to the marina to say hello or book a spot on board for a whale watching adventure. The weather forecast is looking great!
Who knows .... it might just be 'the last time' tour!! 🐳
Many of you will know, that John and Forrest have retired after many years of making Albany Whale Tours what it is now - a successful and much appreciated business in Albany! And while we wish the very best to John and Forrest, we have good news! The business will continue to operate with the same care and love towards the whales and the general environment and from the same spot in the marina. The business will continue to operate with all the same great offers and conditions that have been in place for years! Every guest that comes out with us on a whale watch is offered a second cruise for free, just because we can and because we love for you to be able to make the most of your time in Albany and get out amongst those majestic and wonderful creatures!
John and Forrest will be perpetual members of the Sailaway and Albany Whale Tours crew. You'll never know when John will take the helm...
Please come down to the marina and say hello to the new owners, Aaron Franich, his wife Megan, and daughter Bayley.
Aaron has been working as part of the team along side John for a few years now and is very excited to take on the business and role of Skipper for Sail-A-Way.
Aaron will continue to be supported by all the familiar faces that make up the outstanding team at Albany Whale Tours and Sail-A-Way Catamaran Charters, Tony, Anke, Sunny and Peter.
So come on down to the Albany Waterfront Marina, we would love to take you out - be that for the first time, your return trip or just another magic day in the Sound! Call 0422 441 484 for further information.
