A few photos from Shimmy by the Sea at Sawtell.

What a lovely, relaxing weekend.

On Saturday we learned about dancing Baladi style, then played lots of drum rhythms, and had a drum and dance jam. Dinner was at the Sawtell Hotel, and we got in a little dance before the band even started, then danced the night away, we might have been the last to leave.

On Sunday we learned a beautiful veil choreo, said our goodbyes and headed home via Coffs Harbour markets, and coffee stops.

Thanks go to Helen Tucker for making it all happen.

Here are a few unofficial Abbey Medieval Festival photos as the official photos will take a while to be released.

We had a huge three days, dancing, sword dancing, drumming and zilling.

We taught a Turkish Ottoman folk dance workshop every day, and danced as harem dancers before the oil wrestling matches, then we drummed during the matches too.

The Janissary Barracks is a fabulous encampment and we are made very welcome every year. Plus there’s Turkish coffee and Turkish Delight. What more could we need? :)

Abbey Medieval Festival is our next stop. It starts on Friday 10th July, and goes all weekend.

See us in reenactment mode at the Janissary Barracks where we’ll be teaching Turkish/Ottoman Folk Dance workshops at 11:30am on Friday, and 1:30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

We usually also dance before the oil wrestling starts, and any time the mood takes us!

If you see us and would like a little dance, just ask! We’d love to dance with you.

Lots of photos just got released by Abbey Medieval Festival, (link in comments if you’d like to check it out.)

These photos are of the parades on Saturday and Sunday morning.

We were delighted to be a part of Renaissance Retirement Living’s annual dance concert on June 14th. We did a new choreography, an improvised sword dance, and a fusion line dance!

See you again next year.

It’s that time of year again.

Tomorrow is World Belly Dance Day and some of Ruby Phoenix are in the Shimmy Mob Brisbane team at Kelvin Grove Village Markets.

We’ll be dancing this year’s Shimmy Mob choreography from 9:00am to 12:30pm and probably do a bit of audience participation too.

Hope to see you there!
