We’re looking for a full-time & a casual legend to join the team at Desert Dwellers!

We’re a busy, locally owned and operated outdoor store in Alice Springs, and we need someone who’s reliable, friendly, hands-on and happy to get stuck into a bit of everything.

The role will include:

* Helping customers and providing great service
* Retail sales and operating the register
* Receiving, unpacking and putting away stock
* Keeping the shop tidy, organised and looking great
* Merchandising and restocking
* Helping with general day-to-day jobs around the store
* Learning about our huge range of camping, 4WD, outdoor and motorbike gear

We’re looking for someone who:

* Is reliable and actually turns up 🙌
* Has a positive attitude and good work ethic
* Is confident talking to customers
* Can work independently as well as part of our team
* Isn’t afraid of a bit of physical work
* Is willing to learn, you don’t need to know everything about camping or 4WDs on day one!
* Retail experience is great, but the right attitude is more important.

Well… someone had to do it. 😎

Today we put Kayo’s new 350 side-by-side buggy through its paces, and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint.

Plenty of power, smooth handling, comfortable ride, and enough grunt to put a smile on your face every time you put your foot down. Whether it’s for the property, the campsite, or just a bit of fun, this thing is an absolute weapon.

We’re still finding excuses to keep driving it… purely for “testing purposes” of course. 😉

WOW… what a Finke! 🤯

We just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who dropped into Desert Dwellers over the Finke week.

This year was our biggest Finke ever, and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from locals, visitors, racers, pit crews, campers, and everyone in between.

Whether you stopped in for a last-minute spare part, camping gear, gas, recovery gear, a cold drink, or just a chat, we truly appreciate every single one of you.

The town was buzzing, the race was spectacular, it was fantastic to see so many people enjoying everything Central Australia has to offer.

From our family and team to yours, thank you for supporting local and making this a record-breaking Finke for Desert Dwellers.

Now it’s time for us to catch our breath, restock the shelves, and do it all again next year! 🏁🏕️

Bit of a real one today…

Running a small, independent business isn’t always the fun side you see on socials. Behind the scenes, we’re dealing with things that honestly just suck like people switching lids on YETI products.

It might seem small, but it’s not.
When lids get swapped, it leaves us with incomplete stock that we can’t sell and that costs us money. Real money. The kind that keeps the lights on, pays staff, and keeps products on the shelves for everyone else.
We’re not a major chain, we started with a few pallets of stock and have managed to grow into what we are today.

The frustrating part?
YETI lids are available to purchase separately. There’s no need to swap them.

At the end of the day, switching lids isn’t harmless it’s stealing.

We back our community, and we know the majority of our customers do the right thing (and we appreciate you more than you know). But this kind of behaviour hurts small businesses like ours.

If you need a different lid, just ask us we’ll sort you out properly.

We also have cameras, so we have actual footage of the two people who did this one on Saturday.
