Real questions GPs ask us β€” answered honestly. 🩺

"What does an AEP actually do?" Clinical exercise prescription for injury, chronic disease and disability β€” with clinical reasoning, risk management and measurable outcomes.

"When should I refer?" When exercise needs those three things β€” not simply advice to be more active.

"How do you report back?" Objective data, plain language, secure messaging with your clinic.

We spend a lot of time with local GPs and practice nurses building the exercise-as-medicine bridge. Health professionals: our referrer resource is available β€” message us. Patients: this is who's in your corner. πŸ’ͺ

"I have high blood pressure β€” should I avoid lifting weights?" Short answer: no. πŸ‹οΈ

Resistance training is recommended within hypertension exercise guidelines (Pescatello et al., 2019) β€” done properly, it contributes to lowering blood pressure over time.

"Done properly" means: managed breathing (no straining or breath-holding), sensible loads, and knowing your numbers before you start. We screen resting BP, follow clear defer-and-stop thresholds during sessions, and progress you safely.

The result: a stronger body, and often a better reading at your next GP visit.

Hypertension isn't a reason to avoid the gym β€” it's a reason to train with people who monitor it.

"Am I tired, hungry, or anxious?" If that's a genuinely hard question β€” this post is for you. 🧭

It's called interoception: your sense of what's happening inside your body. Many neurodivergent people experience body signals differently, and that matters in exercise β€” knowing when to push, rest, drink, or stop.

So we build body awareness deliberately: naming sensations during sessions, using effort scales, and anchoring feelings to objective data. Over time, the body becomes easier to read β€” in training AND in daily life.

One of the most underrated outcomes we see: clients who finish a program knowing what their body is telling them. That skill outlasts any exercise.

If you love someone with persistent pain, read this. πŸ’™

1️⃣ It's real β€” even when scans are "clean" and they look fine.
2️⃣ Good days don't mean it's over. Bad days don't mean they've failed.
3️⃣ "Have you tried…" usually lands as pressure, not help.
4️⃣ What helps most: belief, patience, and doing things together at their pace.
5️⃣ Recovery is rarely a straight line β€” it's a trend.

Persistent pain affects around 1 in 5 Australians β€” and everyone who loves them.

Tag someone who deserves to be understood today.

"Set a specific goal and grind." Sometimes that's exactly the wrong advice. 🎯

ESSA's expert statement on goal setting (Swann et al., 2026) cautions that rigid, outcome-only goals can undermine wellbeing and adherence β€” especially early on, when ability is still developing and pressure is a poor coach.

What tends to work better: open goals ("see how far I can walk"), learning goals, and process goals you actually control. We coach goals the same way we prescribe exercise β€” individually, flexibly, and from the evidence.

Goals that pull you forward instead of beating you up. Imagine that.

Your resting blood pressure can look fine β€” and still be hiding something. πŸ«€

ESSA's 2025 consensus statement (Schultz et al.) highlights that an exaggerated blood pressure response DURING exercise can help identify hypertension that resting checks miss.

It's one more reason a clinical exercise assessment is a health tool, not just a fitness test: how your body responds under load is genuine clinical information β€” and we monitor it, record it, and share it with your GP when it matters.

"Will my child actually cope with a session?" β€” the question every parent asks us. πŸ’¬

Honestly? We plan for the answer to be yes. The first visit can just be looking around. Sessions are one-on-one, structured, and shaped around your child's interests and sensory needs. Hard days are met with flexibility, not consequences.

Coping isn't the child's job alone β€” it's the environment's job too. That's the design principle behind everything we do with neurodivergent kids and teens.

Bring your questions, your child's quirks, and zero apologies. That IS the intake process. πŸ’™

POV: your first appointment for persistent pain. 🎯

No poking the sore spot for an hour. Here's the reality:

We talk β€” your story, your goals, what pain has taken from you. We measure what your body can actually do, with objective strength testing. And you leave with two things: an explanation that finally makes sense, and a first step you feel confident taking.

The scariest part is booking. After that, it's just a conversation and a plan.

Type 2 diabetes? Medicare supports GROUP exercise physiology too. πŸ‘₯

Alongside individual sessions, Medicare includes a specific pathway for assessment and group exercise services for people with type 2 diabetes β€” small groups, clinical supervision, real individualised programming, and the motivation of training alongside people on the same road.

It's effective AND more accessible. Ask your GP whether the type 2 diabetes group services fit your management plan β€” eligibility is determined by your doctor, and we're happy to liaise directly with your clinic.

"Your blood sugar is a bit high." Don't wait for the diagnosis. ⏳

Prediabetes means glucose is elevated but not yet diabetic β€” a warning light, not a verdict. And it's the single best window to act: research shows structured exercise and lifestyle change can delay or prevent progression to type 2 diabetes (Bell et al., 2020).

What works: regular aerobic + resistance training, sustainable habit change, and measuring progress objectively. We coach the change, test the results, and report back to your GP.

If your last blood test was "borderline," that's your window.
