We've been a bit quiet here for several weeks, but things have been happening. Club Captain Maxx and Old Girl Claudia represented the Club at the Fiona Reynolds Memorial All Schools Match on Saturday.
The girls formed a combined team with spare Sydney High shooters and waded into the competition - three ranges at 600 metres shooting 8 counting shots for two and finishing with the usual 10 counting shots - after two days of rain soaked practice.
The combined team finished 8th from 14, while Maxx's score placed her 17th from 70 shooters. Claudia ranked 42nd, however the highlight of the day was Maxx scoring her first "possible" - all shots in the bullseye - in the ten shot match, with Claudia's skilful wind coaching keeping her in the centre.
The score of 50-2 placed her second at the range, beaten by one centre bullseye from the only other possible.

Look - we've got to take a little bit of credit here... Old Girl and Club Captain 2015/16 Issy is shooting at the Imperial at Bisley with dad (and TAS OA rifle shooter) Andrew. Both are doing brilliantly in the cocktail of matches and ranges that combine for the Grand Aggregate.
Issy is on the board with dad, conquering the long ranges. Congratulations and best of luck!

A big turnout of seven for the Mothers Day morning session at TAS Smallbore Range. Newer shooters continue to make progress while older shooters concentrated on reducing group size off the sling. Audrey had a personal breakthrough after struggling with eye relief but we're in the groove now.

What, with adventure camps and other school activities, only three resilient and newer Club members made an appearance on Sunday morning. Never mind, they shot three details always working on sight picture and trigger release. The groups are getting smaller. Slings not far away.

Three dedicated Club members turned out on the ANZAC weekend for three details at the fabulous TAS Smallbore Range.
As novice shooters, they appreciated an unhurried morning to solve problems and practice technique. Well done Audrey, Gemma and Tori.

With Armidale Rifle Club at 300 Yards, NEGS Rifle Club took the opportunity to introduce four new members to Fullbore. No mucking about, straight onto .308". Drawing on Smallbore skills and using a sandbag rest so as not to overwhelm, all shots were on the plate, with some commendable groups and morale boosting Bulls and VBulls. Thanks again to Armidale for giving us a target to ourselves for the morning, and Aitch Bee for the crackers. Hannah and Claudia, we missed you.

The squad continues to work on sight picture and grouping, with considerable improvement allowing sight adjustment to centre on the ten ring. Won't be long before we're up to jackets and slings!

A keen squad turned out on Sunday with a "pinch and a punch", shooting two stages - concentrating on grouping and some encouraging scores assisted by the head coach squinting through the 'scope and calling adjustments. All good fun.

The first range day for the Club welcomed several new members to the sport. Per our training doctrine, the term will be spent at the TAS Smallbore Range, with perhaps a visit to Wollomombi for a familiarisation visit when next Armidale RC are at 300 yards.

Sunday's Smallbore session wrapped it up for the year. A fabulous roll-up (all other sport activities over!) enjoyed two details in balmy weather, interspersed with party chocolates and followed by the obligatory fast food "restaurant" visit. The day was even more special with a surprise visit from (now Old Girl) Captain Claudia P who enjoyed shooting with her team one last time.
