Shindo Karate Academy Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Gisborne

Shindo Karate Academy Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Gisborne Shindo Karate is Victoria's #1 competition club. Visit our Melton or Bacchus Marsh dojos to see what the hype is about!

Shindo Karate (the way of the free spirit) was born from a desire to teach quality karate in a stimulating and friendly environment. It is based on the traditional Shotokan style and while maintaining karate's traditional values and techniques it has evolved through using modern teaching and training methods. Our programs are age specific and have been carefully structured to ensure students are delivered the right lesson at the right time. A heavy emphasis is placed on friendship within the club. All the instructors are very close friends and many long term friendships have been formed among students. Shindo is a member of the Australian Karate Federation, which is recognised by the government as being the governing body of karate in Australia. As such students have the opportunity to represent their state and country in the official Victorian and Australian karate teams. All instructors are fully government accredited and insured.

Karate might be what brings people through the doors but the friendships and sense of community are what make people stay.

At Shindo, students train together, encourage each other, celebrate each other’s achievements and build friendships along the way. It’s a place where students get to know their instructors, families get to know each other and everyone has a part to play in the Shindo community.

Some friendships begin on the mats and continue long after class has finished. That’s what makes Shindo more than a place to learn karate. It’s a community you can be part of.

Seeing a child grow in confidence, develop important life skills and build friendships along the way is one of the most rewarding parts of the Shindo journey.

For this family, karate has become about so much more than learning techniques. It's been a place for their daughter to grow, challenge herself, form meaningful friendships and develop skills that extend well beyond the dojo.

We’re incredibly grateful to our families who trust us to be part of their children’s lives and take the time to share their experiences.

Thank you for being part of the Shindo family.

Karate teaches control, discipline and respect.

Karate can look powerful from the outside but learning karate isn't about teaching children to be aggressive. Students are taught to control their movements, respect their training partners and understand when and how techniques should be used. Through structured training, they develop discipline, focus, coordination and self-control, while learning to work respectfully with others.

At Shindo, martial arts is about developing the person, not encouraging aggression.

Strength is knowing how to use your skills responsibly.

Farewell Emilee ❤️🥋
After 17 years at Shindo, Emilee Attard is finishing up with us this week as her teaching career continues to take more and more of her time.

Emilee started at Shindo as a very serious and determined little girl, and it became obvious pretty quickly that she had something special.
She went on to have an amazing competition career.

Emilee became a National Champion in her first year of major competition and this set in motion an amazing career with multiple National titles.
Her success wasn’t limited to Australia either. Emilee competed successfully internationally, with some of her biggest results including Gold at the Austrian Open, Gold at the Oceania Championships and Bronze at the US Open.

But Emilee’s contribution to Shindo has been about much more than competition.
She became our youngest ever instructor and grew into a fantastic teacher and mentor to our younger members.

Over the years, so many Shindo students have been influenced by Emilee. Some of those little kids she helped teach and encourage have gone on to become great competitors and black belts themselves.
More importantly, she has helped many of them grow into great young people.

In many ways Emilee’s journey represents exactly what we hope karate can do. A determined little girl came through our doors 17 years ago, became an outstanding athlete and National Champion, and then grew into a leader and role model who gave back to the next generation. She is leaving as an accomplished and much loved young woman.

We are very proud of everything Emilee has achieved and very grateful for everything she has given to Shindo and to our family over those 17 years.

Thank you Emilee. ❤️🥋

A: Yesssss, always music! I listen to a bit of everything, but always some Kendrick Lamar and some Katy Perry. 🎵

Q: If you weren’t doing karate, what sport do you think you’d be doing?

A: Boxing or MMA.

Q: Describe your fighting style in three words.

A: Strong, aggressive and movement.

Q: What’s your favourite technique — and what technique do you hate having used against you?

A: My favourite technique is a hook kick, and I hate having body kicks used against me.

Q: Finally, what would you like to say to everyone back home supporting you?

A: Thank you for everything. I am extremely grateful, and I wouldn’t be here without you. ❤️

From picking up a free-trial flyer at school seven years ago to preparing to represent Australia on the biggest stage in junior karate — it’s been quite a journey for Lois.

We can’t wait to see her step onto the tatami in Poland wearing the green and gold.

Good luck Lois! 🇦🇺🥋
