The IBCPC Festival is over for another year. Today's racing was 1 km turns race with each boat starting 30 seconds after the last. Perfect conditions and we nearly caught the boat in front.
Hot again. But the cold beer and spritz was delicious!
Big celebration back at rhe hotel before everyone leaves for the rest of their adventures tomorrow.

Gippsland Waratahs are in Aix-les-Bains at the IBCPC international dragon boat regatta! Today was race day! 4,500 paddlers all had two races in for the day. Participatory Games?? I don't think so! Competition was fierce!
The sad thing is there are so many teams of young women who have had breast cancer.
So many teams from Canada, US, Spain, Italy, and heaps from Australia and New Zealand.
The closing ceremony is always so emotional with dragon boat paddlers from every nation in the boats representing their country, and paying tribute to those who have lost their battle with breast cancer.
The collective support from everyone across all nationalities and ages is electric as each member of the paddling community has their own story to tell...and to be grateful that the love and support from friends, family and strangers. Flowers tossed into the lake in memory of past friends and members is so moving.
Then....let the party begin!!!

What a privilege to be here in France amongst so many remarkable women from all over the world.
Stunning scenery along the shores of Lake Bourget at Aix-les-Bains.
Renewing friendships from past regattas is one of the best things about these regattas. The buzz of excitement and anticipation as all the teams are having a chance to practise before the real competition on Friday and Saturday.
The Gippsland Waratahs DA buddies have been doing sightseeing on boat cruises on the Lake and Carol, AnnMaree and MeeMee explored the city centre. Denise borrowed a bike (a very old wobbly mountain bike) and rode around the lake and the venue. Dorthe explored Annecy, the next town.
Can't thank the Dragons Abreast Australia organisers enough for all their hard work and planning.

Carrum Regatta done and dusted. Gippsland Waratahs buddied up with five other clubs to form a competitive team in the first Senior D (over 70) class. Thanks Kingfishers, Water Dragons, Pink Phoenix, Warrnambool and Brave Hearts. We were very competitive against Dragon Masters and Dragonflies who only beat us by 1.5 seconds in 1km race, and .5 of a second in 200m races!

And great paddling by our Senior B paddlers who joined with Kingfishers in lots of races.

Special thanks to our volunteer, Ruary, who worked tirelessly all day loading and unloading on the jetty.

Huge Congratulations to DA Gippsland Waratahs member Julie Lamont, who has been inducted in as the new President of Bairnsdale Sunrise Rotary Club. What an honour, we are so very proud of you and wish you well in this new and no doubt busy role. (Hopefully there will still be time for paddling 🐲💖🚣🏼‍♀️🐲🐲💖🚣🏼‍♀️). Well done Julie
