School holidays have arrived 🎮

Turns out there is plenty to do in Bairnsdale these holidays. Inside ESports Collective you'll find 16 gaming PCs, consoles, sim racers, a pool table and a shelf full of board games, plus proper tables for Dungeons & Dragons, chess and card nights. You don't need to be a gamer to walk in.

🕒 Holiday hours
Monday and Tuesday, 3pm to 8pm
Wednesday and Thursday, 3pm to 6pm
Friday and Saturday, 12pm to 6pm
On Monday and Tuesday nights the PCs keep running alongside Magic and D&D, so you can jump on while the tables are going or once your session wraps up

🃏 Magic on Mondays, 3pm to 8pm
Magic: The Gathering and tabletop night. Bring a deck or learn on the night, the regulars love teaching new players. Free to come along, no booking or sign-up, just turn up.

🎲 Dungeons & Dragons
Tuesdays from 3pm for teens and adults, Thursdays from 3pm for our primary schoolers. Our Dungeon Masters run co-operative storytelling tables, and brand new players are always welcome.

♟️ Chess on Wednesdays, from 3pm
Free to come along. Pull up a board against a mate or take on whoever is waiting. Never played? Someone here will teach you. Every level is welcome.

🐉 Yu-Gi-Oh! on Thursdays, 3pm to 6pm
Free to come along. Bring your deck and find a table, or watch a few rounds first to see how it plays. New duellists are welcome at any table.

🎮 Casual gaming
Drop in for a session on the PCs, consoles and sim racers. These school holidays only, three hours on a PC is $22, either 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm. That's three hours for the price of our usual two. The sim racers are $22 an hour.

Fancy another game? Tell us what you would like to see running and our Supported Work team will get stuck into making it happen. No idea is too far-fetched around here, and we are pretty good at pulling these things together.

Work built around you 💼

Our Supported Work Program is a real, paid job for NDIS participants, in a supportive, familiar environment right here in Bairnsdale. Real responsibilities, real pay, and a place to start.

It's for young people who are neurodivergent or have an intellectual disability, who want to work but haven't found an employer who understands their needs.

We build roles around the person. Not keen on serving people? We can start with a back of house role, like cleaning or maintaining our equipment. Love gaming? Maybe you could run one of our After School Clubs. Enjoy a chat? Front of house, welcoming people into our space, is a great option.

It's a stepping stone. This is where work skills start, like turning up, teamwork and confidence, with support built in, not bolted on. People who grow into the role can move into peer mentoring or take those skills further. A first step, not the finish line.

Funded through category 10 Finding and Keeping a Job, or category 04 Supports in Employment, aligned to the employment goals in a participant's plan. Currently open to self-managed and plan-managed participants.

Roll for adventure 🎲

Our D&D community is growing! We now have 3 tables running on Tuesdays and 2 on Thursdays, full of a great group of like-minded people who love a good story, a few laughs and plenty of dice rolls.

New to Dungeons & Dragons? It's a co-operative storytelling game played around a table. A Dungeon Master guides the adventure while everyone else plays a character, making choices and rolling dice. You don't need to know the rules before you start, our Dungeon Masters will teach you as you play.

🗡️ Tuesdays, 4pm - 6pm: Teens & Adults
Three tables of ongoing campaigns. Build a character, team up and see where the story takes you.

🐉 Thursdays, 4pm - 6pm: Primary Schoolers
Two tables with friendly Dungeon Masters and stories the kids help write, every single week.

Using NDIS funding? Join any table with support from our Support Workers or Peer Support Mentors, and there's no membership to pay because it's included in our supports. NDIS-only sessions also run on Thursdays and Fridays. Ask us which table is the right fit.

Tables are kept small, around 4 to 5 players, so everyone gets a real part in the story. Membership is $15 a week. Enquire online to grab your seat, link in the comments 👇

Magic Mondays are here 🃏

Magic: The Gathering and tabletop nights now run every Monday from 3pm to late at ESports Collective in Bairnsdale. Pull up a chair, shuffle up and play. There's no cost to come along.

Never shuffled a deck before? Got a binder full of rares? Everyone is welcome, and the regulars are happy to help new players learn. These tables belong to the community.

New to the game? Magic: The Gathering is a strategy card game played face to face. Each player builds a deck, then works to bring their opponents' life totals down to zero. No two games ever play out the same.

It's not just Magic either. Yu-Gi-Oh!, board games and Dungeons & Dragons groups are all welcome too. Bring your own cards or game and grab a table. Snacks and drinks are available to buy on the night.

A lot of group supports put young people together because they share a diagnosis or a funding category, and then hope something clicks. Ours start somewhere better, with what they're actually into.

When a group is built around a shared interest, the social side looks after itself. For a lot of neurodivergent young people friendship doesn't start with a conversation, it starts with something to do together. Give them a game in common and they've already got a way in, without anyone forcing small talk.

Being in the room with other young people who get it does something an adult can't. They pick things up from each other, how to handle losing a game, how to join in, how to ask for a break, and over a few weeks the same faces turn into real mates. That's the part parents mention most. Not the skills and not the funding, but that their kid knows someone's name and looks forward to going.

The funding works in your favour too. In a group, one support worker might be shared across two or three young people, so the cost of their hour is split between the people assigned to them and the same plan covers more sessions. It's not one size fits all, some start on 1:1 and stay there as long as that's the right fit.

Start with what your young person loves. Tell us what they're into and we'll help you find the group that fits.

Parents ask us what the place actually looks like, which is fair enough. Nobody wants to bring their kid somewhere they can't picture.

So here's all of it. The PCs on the main floor, the sim racers, the console couches, the lounge, the kitchen, the pool table, and the D&D spaces out the back.

Those quieter spaces matter more than they sound like they should. Some kids want to be in the middle of everything. Some want somewhere calmer to step back to. Having both means people can move between them depending on the day they're having.

Quick reminder for the weekend. We're open Saturdays now, casual gaming from 12pm.

No school run, no rush. Bring the whole family for an afternoon on the screens, or round up a few mates and make a session of it.

Two hours is just $22, or a membership is $15 a week for three hours of game time.

Saturdays are still a bit of a trial, so if it suits your family, come and use it. That's what keeps it here. Booking ahead really helps us roster enough of our juniors on.

Right, the question we've been getting more than any other: are the tournaments coming back?

The honest answer: they're on the way.

Here's the thing about a tournament. A room packed with people, the roar when someone lands a comeback nobody saw coming, everyone on the edge of their seat. You don't get that gaming solo on the couch at home. That's the whole point of it.

But they don't run themselves. Before any of it happens, we need a Tournament Lead. Someone to take the reins and make it their own. The games, the format, how it all works, that's theirs to build, their way. We're handing over the keys.

So the details will come once we've found them. If that's you, or someone you know who knows tournaments and wants to build something from the ground up, this is a good one.

People hear "social session" and picture a silent room of people at screens, headphones on, not talking. Fair enough. So here's what one actually looks like.

It starts with gaming, because that's the hook that gets people through the door. But it's the base we build on, not where it stops. Someone might walk in a solo gamer. Over time we nudge towards playing with others, at their own pace.

Halfway through, everyone stops for lunch. A proper screen break, built into every session, because the healthy habits matter too. On Tuesdays we cook in the kitchen. On Thursdays it's chips, and it's a whole thing: one person heads out with their support worker to grab takeaway for the crew, others set the table, someone cleans up after. Everyone's got a job in it.

None of it looks like a program. That's the point.

Our crew is mostly 15 to 25, with a few older ones too. Social sessions run midday, Tuesday to Friday. A regular booking, not a casual drop-in, funded through the NDIS or paid privately.
