The Mid North Veterans hosted the Northern YP Vets today at Balaklava, with the Mid North crew taking out the win!
This was helped by a hole in one by Lew Fogden on hole 8 - well done!! (The port must have helped!!)
Well done to former MN and now YP's Dave Smart who had the score of the day, 42 points, with another YP Alan Penglase second on 41, then two MN vets Dave Brice and Austin Henstridge on 40, followed by Christine Hahesy and Ivan Gray 38, then all on 37 were Lew Fogden, Gilbert Davis and Bruce Reichstein. Well done everyone, and thanks to the Balaklava helpers for organising food, manning the bar, and presenting the course in such a fantastic condition.

Results from Saturday 12th September.

Spring has officially sprung with 25 participants greeted by warm conditions as they competed in a god old fashioned stroke event. The A grade was won via a count back, as Louise Michael 85/72, nudged Chris Marshall into 2nd 84/72. Seemingly content with 3rd was Bryn Jones with 86/75.
In the B Grade it was none other than Dave Brice who took to the top of the podium, after signing for score of the day 87/70, 2nd went to ‘The Pres’ Paul Thompson 87/72, with Mike Smith in tow after a solid 92/74.
The C Grade was again taken out by the ever-improving Richard Campbell recording 103/70, with 2nd place getter Carolyn Mutton looking refreshed after her trip north, with an impressive 96/71, with Kate Green just one back after her 100/72.
NTP wins went the way of Davo on both 3 & 10, with Austin closest on 8, leaving Matt Hoepner to get really close on 15. 2nd shot winners were crowned, with Mike best on 9 & Foggy nearest on 13. Lots of birdies were had by Jake Michael & Carolyn on 3, Bryn on 5, Roger Hahn on 7, Mike on 9, Jake Marzocca on 14 & Richard Maxwell on 16.
Multiple birdies were had by Matt on 14 & 15 while Foggy not only had 3 of his own on 8, 13 & 16, but his number also came up on the birdie spin after play, when number 8 found its way to the top of the wheel.
This week we have scheduled in a Stableford round, with Dave Coulter taking charge of starter duties with help from Louise at the bar, before Ben Michael makes a guest appearance in the afternoon.
Don’t forget that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday the 21st of September at the clubhouse commencing at 7.30pm. A special meeting will be held prior to the AGM to address items concerning constitution changes. We strongly encourage members to attend the AGM to look back on the progress made over the last 12 months, understand challenges facing our club and help shape the future of our club.
Also, our end of winter season day is set to be played on Sunday 27th September, in the way of a 4BBB competition to be played in pairs.
Please be advised that there is no programmed event for Saturday 26th. Cheers Sno

Some ladies got up close and personal with some trees today, resulting in some ingenuitive shots! Well done to Chris who had to improvise by literally standing over a stump to hit her ball which was nestled on the other side, while Leanne hit a great backhander to the green behind her!

Results today for the ladies stroke round:
Louise Michael 83/70, Jill Taylor 100/74 and third Janice Smith 106/77.
NTPs won by Janice Smith on 3 and Leanne Klein on 10.
Janice also had a chip in on 7, Chris Hahesy had one on 17, and Louise had chip ins resulting in birdies on 13 and 15.
Next week is a stableford round - all welcome.

Men's stableford results 9/9:
Scott Michael 38, Dave Coulter 36 c/back Kelly Stott 36, Ernie Dean 35, Bill Lokan 34 c/back Adrian Ward 34.
Numerous NTPs and birdies, and even some 4 pointers! Well done gents! All welcome for a stableford round again next Wednesday.

How lucky are goflers when they arrive at Balaklava Golf Club and are surrounded by magnificent, bright canola crops! Go the green and gold!
A determined group of hopefuls took on the blustery conditions as they competed in a Stableford Event on Saturday.
No surprise to anyone when Austin Henstridge carded the best score of the day, after signing for 34 points. 2nd in C Grade was Jake Michael with 33, using the count back to relegate Richard Sandow into 3rd, also with 33 points.
The B Grade was dominated by big hitting Matt Hoepner, with a solid 33 points, way ahead of newcomer Jake Marzocca with his 28, leaving Paul Thompson to lament what could have been after his 27 points.
A Grade winner was Ian Michael, another solid 33 points, with Louise Michael back in her natural habitat that is the A Grade, with a respectable 32 points, leaving Bryn Jones to limp into 3rd with 29. NTP wins went the way of Matt 0n 3, Jake Michael on 8 with Tamika Gregory closest on 10. Tamika's drive on 10 was excellent, but we can only blame the wind for her drive on 9 that ended up in a nasty spot under a tree! (pictured)
With a big headwind into the 15th, alas no-one got onto the green off the tee. 2nd shot winner was Bryn on 13 with again no name pencilled in on number 9.
A few birdies were recorded, most notably by Ian on 4 & 7, Jake Michael on 8 with Brayden Harkness & Matt both having 3’s on number 1. With number 5 spun up on the birdie wheel in the clubhouse after play, the jackpot continues to grow.
This week you best prepare for warmer conditions, as we gather for a Stroke round, with Ian Jenkin up for starter duties, with Brayden on AM bar before Louise takes control after play.
With the final round of the Winter Shield set, Lachlan Wright continues his fine form, with a solid win over Bradley Serbert in the B Grade Final, taking the win 5 & 3.
Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks as the A & C Grade finals are scheduled to be completed by September 19th.
Balaklava Golf Club is pleased to confirm that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday the 21st of September at the clubhouse commencing at 7.30pm. A special meeting will be held prior to the AGM to address items concerning constitution changes. We strongly encourage members to attend the AGM to look back on the progress made over the last twelve months, understand challenges facing our club and help shape the future of our club.
If you would like to nominate for a position on the committee, nomination forms are on the pin up board in the clubhouse or contact club secretary Matt Hoepner.
Also, our end of winter season day is set to be played on Sunday 27th September, in the way of a 4BBB competition to be played in pairs. Please be advised that there is no programmed event for Saturday 26th. Cheers Sno

The weather was hot at Balaklava Golf Course today, and so was the golf (well, at times, anyway...)
The Mid North Ladies Champion of Champions and Salvers were played with close results all 'round. Well done to Glenys and Trish for surviving their first MN Championship event (with help from Chook!)
Champion of Champions winner (over 27 holes) was Aimee Feltham of Highercombe with 131 (from Balaklava's Louise Michael 134).
The Silver, Bronze and C Grade Salvers were played over 18 holes, with results based on gross and nett winners first, then runners up in each section.
So in the Silver, the gross winner was Alex Nicholls of Clare with 83 off the stick, nett winner was Louise Michael of Balaklava with 73, then gross r/up was Aimee Feltham on 89, and nett r/up was Tracey Moody of Clare 77.
Bronze winner with 92 off the stick was Blyth's Kerryn Mugge, and nett winer was Glenys Pierce of Clare with 78. Gross r/up was Balaklava's Tracey Summers 96, and nett r/up was Clare's Heather Grace 78.
In the C Grade stableford, Wendy Schutz from Barossa Valley won with 32 points on a countback from Balaklava's Kate Green, third was Jane Hayes of Highercombe 32 on yet another countback from Clare's Belinda Dare.
A huge thank you to the volunteer course crew who have the course looking AMAZING, and the greens were slick and tricky!
Here are some pics of the winners, plus some shots taken around the course (and NO we didn't go into the adjacent stunning canola crop... although some errant golf balls may have...)

26/08/2026

A reminder that the course will be closed THIS Friday (August 28) from 8am until 2pm due to a Mid North Ladies event.
Visitors/members are welcome to have a hit after 2pm.
Good luck to the ladies playing Friday!

Saturday's stableford report
18 players were greeted with fine conditions on Saturday, as they assembled to take part in our 3rd Stableford round of 2026.
With the C Graders handling conditions best, it was Tamika Gregory who stole the show, carding an impressive 42 points to dominate proceedings.
Second went to Austin Henstridge also a great score of 38, with Rick Campbell 3rd after his 34 points.
In A Grade, it was Murray Smith just nudging Bryn Jones out of top spot via the count back system, after they both signed for 31 points, leaving Ian Boots to take 3rd with his 28 points.
B Grade was won by the recently demoted Louise Michael after she compiled a solid 35 points, way ahead of Dave Brice 2nd with 28. NTP winners were shared around with Kelly Stott closest on 3, Scott Michael best on 8, Murray nearest on 10 with Kate Green taking bragging rights on 15.
Second shot NTP’s went to Rick on 9 with Muzz lobbing his 2nd shot closest on 13.
Birdies were hard to come by with Will Bedell having one on 2 & Rick getting his on 10. Alas with neither involved in the birdie spin, so it continues to climb.
In Winter Shield news, Lachlan Wright took down big hitting Chris Marshall 3 & 1, & young Gus Lemon pushed aside Paul Thompson 6 & 5.
This week we have programmed our 4th PAR round, with Ian Jenkin up for starter duties, with Austin on am bar then Josie Thompson making small talk in the afternoon. Cheers Sno.

And what a great view while playing -a good looking golden canola crop next to the beautiful green course!

Saturday's results
With fine conditions on offer a solid 19 participants took to the highly impressive course to decide who would in fact prevail in a Stableford event. While some wanted to maintain their mojo, others were saving themselves for Sunday's club champs.
So, with only a couple of B Graders on hand, it was again decided to form 2 lines & call them Div 1 & 2. Craig McKnight came out on top of Div 1, after signing for best score of the day with 38 points, well ahead of Foggy Marshall 2nd having 33, just ahead of Scott Michael’s solid 30 points.
Div 2 was taken out by Ian Jenkin who nudged young Tamika Gregory into 2nd via the dreaded count back after they both recorded 35 points, meaning Tania Matz had to settle for third with her well compiled 33 points.
NTP wins went to Richard Sandow on 3, visitor Anna Hawker on 8, Andrew Bradley on 10 with Lachlan Wright closest on 15. 2nd shot prizes going to Jenks on 9 & Craig on 13.
Craig again gets a mention with his 3 birdies on 6, 13 & 16. Jenks on 9, Foggy on both 7 & 17, Richard on 3 & Andrew on 10. With #18 spun up on the birdie wheel, the Jackpot is starting to gain some momentum.
This week we can start planning on how best to prepare for our 3rd Stableford round for 2026, with Bryn Jones having a crack at Starter duties while Ben Michael gives moral support from the comfort of the bar prior to play, before Louise steps in to clean up his mess after play.
A friendly reminder to those still in the Winter Shield, that second round matches are due to be completed by the 23rd August, so please get together & get it done.
Also please be advised of our upcoming AGM, to be conducted in the clubhouse on Monday 21st September at 730pm sharp. Please make yourself available for this as we reflect on the year that was & look forward to the year ahead.
Cheers Sno.
