Good luck to Gold Martial Arts athlete Hayden Maru, who will represent Australia in the Junior Male Kata category at the 14th Karate World Championships Cadet, Junior & U21 in Bielsko-Biała, Poland 🇵🇱, from 14 - 18 October 2026, joining 2,000+ athletes from 114 countries.

Recently, Hayden shared his thoughts on representing Australia, competing at a World Championships, and what this incredible opportunity means to him.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be representing Australia at my second World Championships.

I’m heading into this competition ready to make a strong statement on the tatami. Recently, I had a strong performance at the Youth League in Manila, finishing 5th and narrowly missing out on the podium. That result has only motivated me to push myself even harder in the dojo.

The hard work, training and preparation have all led to this moment. I’m ready to step onto the tatami, give everything I’ve got and represent Australia with pride.”

ST STEPHEN'S SCHOOL | Self Defence Program

Thank you to St Stephen's School for the wonderful opportunity to teach Self Defence to the Year 12 cohort.

It was a pleasure working with such an enthusiastic, engaged, and respectful group of students throughout Term 3, 2026. The sessions focused not only on practical self-defence techniques, but also on developing awareness, confidence, communication, and decision-making skills, while learning how to respond calmly and appropriately in challenging situations.

These skills are particularly valuable as students begin life beyond school, equipping them with the confidence and awareness to make informed decisions and navigate new environments and challenges safely and responsibly.

Every new belt represents more than progress on the mat. It reflects hard work, discipline, determination, and the courage to keep pushing forward. Congratulations to all our students who have reached their next belt level. The journey continues!

A special congratulations to Nathan Wong, Kai Shah, Mila Rodriguez Okuo, Anthony Head, Finn Terpsis, Olivia Zhuang, Toby Thai, and Diya Gautam, who were recognised as recipients of the Grading Awards.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our wonderful Grading Panel members, Taylor-Ann Reilly, Ralph Havard, Tina Farazi, Eliana Currie, and Sadhbh Smith-Flanagan. Thank you for generously sharing your time, knowledge, and expertise, and for supporting our students throughout the grading process.
