IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE LEAGUE
Future Fixture Schedule for BFLW
On 16 September, the Board held a meeting to discuss the future fixturing structure for BFLW.
Following consideration of the data collected through the recent survey, along with feedback received from clubs, stakeholders and the strategic review process, the Board has established the following structure for the 2027 season:
Senior Women and U19 Girls will move to Saturday, aligning these competitions with the senior competition.
U12, U14 and U16 Girls will be played on Sunday.
The specific timing and scheduling of games is still being worked through, and further information will be shared with clubs over the coming weeks.
When developing the fixture, the League’s focus is on creating a structure that supports player enjoyment and engagement, volunteer workloads, canteen viability, and equality between boy's and girl's football.
The aim is to develop a structure that supports the continued growth of girl's football and provides an environment in which the competition can grow and flourish.
The move of the Senior Women and U19 Girls competitions to Saturday will help strengthen and expand our senior competitions. This structure provides an opportunity to attract additional teams to the competition, increase exposure for BFLW and create further opportunities to showcase the incredible talent within women’s football.
Another key consideration is the ability to utilise our premier venues more regularly. Having the Senior Women and U19 Girls competitions integrated with the broader senior competition will also help strengthen connections between women’s teams and their senior clubs. This will support greater club culture, community connection and a sense of belonging, while also creating opportunities to share volunteers, sponsorship and other club resources.
Moving the U19 Girls and Senior Women from Sunday also creates greater opportunities within our junior football structure. This will allow the U12 Girls competition to be incorporated into junior girl's football and provide greater opportunities for girls to be involved and connected within their junior clubs.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and contributed to the strategic review process. Your input has been valuable in helping shape the future direction of BFLW, and we look forward to continuing to work with clubs as the fixture structure is developed.
