Also on Friday night our 14Cs North Balwyn/Deepdene United team took on Richmond. They bowled first with Maxwell Herrman taking an early wicket creating the great bowling figure 1/1(1over). Umar Imran bowled a maiden over to help restrict Richmond to 109 runs. Unfortunately the team struggled to make runs with Sukhman Singh top scoring with 15(9balls). They fell short of the total making 74runs. Better luck next week team! Deepdene Uniting Cricket Club

The 16Bs were away against the Balwyn Saints. Batting first last week, Sahasra Pulibandla had a great innings with 80*(106 balls), Jasmine Freeman was also not out 21*(31 balls). This week they were defending their total or 166. After a couple of quick wickets they had Balwyn Saints at 2/31. Samaira Shetty helping with the early wickets and the final figures of 2/12(3 overs). Unfortunately the wickets dried up from there and their runs were chased down with 2 overs to spare.

3 of our junior teams played day 2 of their 2 day matches this week.

The U12s were at home against Deepdene. After winning the match convincingly last week in one day, they played a scratch match this Saturday. Where Carter Davies was able to score a half century. Last week Sai Dhamodharan top scored 24*(30) and Aarish Sharma took 1/11 (3overs). The team won 2 matches in 2 days, we'll done team!

The U14s were away against Richmond, last week they set a great score of 7/224 off only 34 overs. Vivaan Varun proving he's going to be the run maker this year with 75*(52), hitting a 6 off his last ball to make the highest possible score a batter can make in this division. This week the team came out determined to defend their score. Tight bowling by Preyas Bindu 0/9(3 overs) and Hashir Salman 1/15 (5 overs) meant Richmond struggled early. Then the wickets fell, Richmond were all out for 116. Special mention to Carter Davies, with his 1st match in the U14As, and the amazing bowling figures of 1/0 (1 over).

The U16s were at home against Kew. Last week they bowled first with Max Findlay taking out their opening batters quickly, 2/22(6 overs), Kew struggled to make runs from there. Shaurya Deshmukh helped clean up the restl with 3/20 (7.4 overs). The team came out firing early this week with the bat, Muhtab Singh cruising to 75(69). Shaurya Deshmukh finished the innings with 60*(41). The team made 286 for a comfortable win.

Round 3 result: NBCC women’s first XI defeat N Eltham women’s first XI by 34 runs in a memorable grand final rematch

Nicola Hogan 56
Genevieve Grose 44 not out
Julie Miller 29

Nicola Hogan 1/8 off 5
Taz Browning 1/4 off 2
Jemma Owen 1/7 off 1

After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the Bulls women got off to a great start with a 75 run opening partnership between Nicola and Julie before the openers fell either side of the drinks break. After a mini collapse, Gen and Ricci steadied the ship and brought us to a formidable total of 178 to defend.

The Bulls women made early inroads with the ball with wickets in the 2nd and 3rd overs. We had to wait until the 14th over for our next breakthrough when debutante Jemma Owen seamed one back in to take the top of off stump.

After 20 overs (of 30) N Eltham looked to be on target in their chase, needing just over 5 an over for the last 10. But disciplined bowling saw more wickets fall and only 20 runs added in the last 10 overs, securing a 34 run victory.

Every player contributed. 10 different bowlers were used, 6 of whom took wickets while the other 4 applied pressure. Well done to our women’s firsts!

Juniors are back!!
Friday night, the 2026/27 junior season kicked off with some fine weather and some awesome cricket.

The U16As were away against East Doncaster. Some tight bowling by the team with Shaayan Anwar bowling 1/9(4overs) and Jotinder Singh 0/9(4overs) saw East Doncaster struggling for runs. Setting a total of 113 to chase. The run chase was short and swift with 6s hitting roofs and cars. Mahtab Singh 52(48balls) and Abu Imran 41(33balls). The game was packed up and everyone was home before the sun had thoughts of setting.

The U14As were away against Kew, who had 2 strong batters but once they were out to wickets fell quickly. Vivaan Varun started the season off with a hat-trick!! 3/22(4overs). Kew set a respectable 3-112. Unfortunately the boys came up against a strong bowling side and struggled to make runs. Vendanth Shetty top scored with 14(24balls) and the team fell well short of their target but have lots to work on at training.

The U16Bs girls had a nail biter at home against North Alphington. Overs were restricted to 18 due to light. The girls came out strong with new player April Chaudhary leading with the bat, 20*(23balls). Everyone bowled tightly, with few extras, especially Tiasha de Silva 2/14(3overs). The fielding was awesome with two spectacular catches from Sahasra Pulibandla overhead at short cover and Antonia Dias. In the end they held North Alphington off and won by 8 runs.

Tough day for our women’s teams today both going down by just a few runs. Still, everyone had heaps of fun and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

NBCC First XI (5/188) couldn’t quite reach the formidable target set by Research Eltham First XI (3/199) despite grit and determination.

The highlight was our first century of this summer from Nicola (100* off 73) but our other batters couldn’t quite manage the needed support. Cath contributed a valuable 24 off 27 and Gen 17 off 26.

Ricci had the best bowling economy allowing 24 off her 6 overs, with a wicket each for Nicola and Dani.

Props to Reseach who played an excellent game of high quality cricket.

The second XI (social team) opened their season with a close T20, chasing 112 runs set by Kerrimuir United. Captain Marnie took the only wicket with a caught and bowled and also top scored with the bat, smashing 31 off 21 balls. KK junior also scored 20 off only 14. We finished just 6 runs short.

NBCC Social team was delighted to welcome three debutantes: Julia, KK senior, and Isabelle. Well played.
