Our NBBC Craft Group co-ordinators Lois Staunton and Betty Collins are delighted with the overwhelming result of 1635 knitted squares and sincerely thank everyone who participated in the 2026 NBBC KOGO CHALLENGE.
We set the target at last year’s total of 582 squares and our Members, Family and Friends have outdone themselves. With the help once again from Jenny Woods and her mother, Nelly Ziegerink, Yvonne Lockwood and her Probus friends together with Val Harrison, who all donated large numbers of squares. We apologise if we have left anyone else off this thankyou list if you donated in large numbers anonymously.
Lois took nine boxes of squares to the KOGO drop off point which included one box of assorted garments and cot blankets. Volunteers at KOGO will be able to make 54 cot blankets or 34 adult blankets with our donation. A magnificent contribution to a very worthwhile charity. https://www.kogo.org.au/

The Official Opening of our 2026-2027 Bowls Season was very well attended on Saturday 5th September.
We welcomed our guests, Boroondara Councillors Felicity Sinfield and Sophie Torney. A busy schedule prevented Jess Wilson MLA from attending while an unforeseen circumstance meant The Hon Dr Monique Ryan had to send her apologies.
The weather was fine if somewhat windy and our bowlers were challenged with a game of Scroungers. At 3pm we adjourned to the club rooms to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and hear an overview of the coming pennant season from Bowls Director Bruce Hexter. Vice President Craig Stephens provided an update on our new Sponsors (Bendigo Community Bank Inner East and Activate Allied Health) and our long-standing platinum sponsor Hello World Travel Balwyn North.
During the afternoon we proudly recognized the extraordinary contribution of Betty Collins OAM, to the sport of bowls locally, nationally and worldwide. The Club did so by unveiling a beautiful, framed portrait of Betty, celebrating her many accomplishments. We are honoured to have Betty as a member of our club.
Thanks to all members who contributed on Saturday and we look forward to a successful Pennant Year.
Robyn McClelland. President NBBC
