🐬 Dolphins & Choppy Seas 🌊

14 Seahorses enjoyed a swim today, although getting through the breakers was a bit messy again! 13 made it out past the breakers, while one turned back safely to shore.

The strong current made for a slow slog past the Surf Club, with the wind adding plenty of chop. There was some careful breathing required today… trying not to swallow half the ocean! 😅

Then came the magic moment! 🐬 As we reached the cliff stairs, a pod of dolphins appeared and came incredibly close, swimming right alongside us. They were so close, but the water wasn’t as clear today, so we only saw them above the surface. For many Seahorses, it was their first-ever close-up dolphin encounter, and they were astonished by just how big they are! 💙

Four Seahorses turned back at the stairs, while the rest continued south towards Dixon with our dolphin buddies tagging along. And for a lucky few, the dolphins came right underneath them, giving them an up-close-and-personal underwater encounter. 🐬

Choppy conditions, strong currents and a mouthful or two of seawater… all forgotten when the dolphins showed up!

🌊 Four Seahorses vs. the Surf 🌊

Only four Seahorses took on the large surf on Saturday, and getting out past the bar was once again no easy feat! The waves were big, the journey out was challenging, and one Seahorse decided the shore was looking like the better option and turned back.

Three made it out the back and took on the Dixon return, with the swim south proving to be the tougher leg against the conditions. There was even some bonus body surfing along the way, although it came at a cost, with goggles and a cap disappearing into the blue! 🥽🧢🌊

A small crew, a big ocean and one seriously challenging swim. Awesome effort, thanks for the swim all! 💙🐴

Spring has sprung and hibernation is officially over! ☀️🌊

Twenty-four Seahorses enjoyed the glorious sunshine on Saturday morning. The conditions certainly kept things interesting, with waves smashing onto the sandbank and adding a little extra excitement to the swim! 🌊

With the sandbank in play, two swimmers made the smart call to head back in, while the rest of us braved the breakers and carried on with the adventure! 🌊

Twenty completed the Mid Cliff return, one did the Cliff return, and I managed a combination of both!

Another Saturday, another Seahorse adventure! 🩵🌊 Plenty of sunshine, a few wild waves, lots of laughs and, as always, good company in the big blue. Thanks for the swim, all! 🐴💙

🌊🐬 Seahorses Saturday Swim 🐬🌊

Only 4 Seahorses took on the challenging conditions today, proving that sometimes the smallest crew has the biggest adventure.

The journey out was a long one. The rip gave us a helping hand, but the deep break meant a long swim before we reached the back. Once out there, it was a very bumpy ride with plenty of up and down over some sizeable waves.

Heading south against the current was a struggle, so we stopped at the stairs for our usual briefing and agreed we’d done enough for the day.

Then nature had other plans…

A pod of around 20 dolphins appeared, heading straight towards us! They came right up, swimming all around and even underneath us. For a few magical moments, we became part of their pod, enjoying an unforgettable frolic together before they continued on their way.

Some swims test your determination. Others reward you with memories that last a lifetime. Today, we got both. Thanks for an amazing swim all 💙🐬🌊

A dozen seahorses headed out yesterday on a stunning winter’s day, although it certainly felt like spring had arrived early. ☀️🌊

With the ocean as flat as a lake, we swam north again, gliding over the sandbar and across the reef in perfect conditions. We split into three groups, making our way back over the reef, spotting countless big blue gropers cruising through the channels.

To top it all off, we disturbed two friendly Port Jackson sharks and joined them for a little bit before continuing on our way. Encounters like these are what make our swims so special.

🩵🦭 Solo Swim

Just one brave Seahorse flew the flag this morning! 💙

It was a true in-and-out adventure. Our Shehorse made her way out beyond the breakers before settling into beautiful, crystal-clear blue water. A balmy 16.4°C, and it looked absolutely stunning.

Then, out of nowhere, a random bigger wave broke in the deep. Decision made… time to turn around and head back in! 🌊

The post-swim photo tells the tale… one Seahorse came out absolutely exhilarated, while one shore support crew member was left thoroughly frustrated at not being able to join in on the fun! 😄

Some days you swim. Some days you cheer from the sand. Either way, the ocean always has the final say. 💙

🐚 Crystal Clear, Stingray Near! 🌊

Yesterday, 10 brave Seahorses hit the water in a chilly 15.5°C! 🥶🌊

With the tide low, they navigated out over the sandbar and headed north, enjoying crystal-clear water and fantastic conditions.

There was even a stingray sighting by some, while others apparently swam straight over it without even knowing it was there! 😂 How they missed it in water that clear is anyone’s guess!

10 Seahorses, 15.5°C and another beautiful morning in the ocean. Great swim all 💙🐚

🌊 No swim today…

Today was a no-swim day, the surf had other plans.

Instead, this post is a shout-out to Red Equipment for helping us warm up after our winter swims. Our Evo Changing Robes have become a favourite for staying warm and comfortable on those icy winter mornings.

Winter swimming is great. Feeling the circulation return to your fingers and toes afterwards is even better. 💙❄️

📸❄️ Blue Skies, Big Smiles & Whale Songs 🐋💙

A winter record? We think so! Fifteen Seahorses turned out for today’s midwinter swim, making the most of what felt like a surprisingly balmy winter ocean.

The water was crystal clear, a warm blue mirror of the cloudless sky. The air, however, had other ideas. The biting wind chill explains why today’s pre-swim photo featured robes, coats and hoodies rather than bathers! 🥶

Getting out over the bar was no easy task again today. A couple of Seahorses decided not to continue, while the rest of us were glad to catch our breath once we made it out the back before continuing south to Dixon against the swell.

Our reward came when we stopped, floated quietly, and listened beneath the surface. The whales didn’t disappoint, their haunting songs carrying through the water. It was a magical first for some of our swimmers. 🐋🎶

Two Seahorses called it a day at Dixon, while the remaining eleven enjoyed a well-earned cruise home, with the swell finally giving us a helping hand.

Winter keeps delivering the goods. Thanks for the swim all 🌊💙

🌊 Riding the Rip, Respecting the Ocean

Four Seahorses embraced some lively winter conditions today, with a long paddle out beyond the breakers. Once outside, the rip had other ideas, carrying us further offshore while the current gave us a helping hand south.

Experience told us the return wouldn’t be so kind, so a well-timed tumbleturn near the cliff had us heading for home before the ocean found another gear. 🌊💙

No close encounters to report, but pods of dolphins patrolled the coastline while whales put on a spectacular display offshore, adding to the magic of the morning. 🐬🐋

A challenging but rewarding swim, and great company as always. Thanks for the swim all! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🌈
