Assistant Instructor Profile. Ruby began her Taekwon-Do journey at our Bassendean Dojang in 2017, training under the guidance of our WA State Head Female Instructor, Marlyn. Through years of consistent effort, discipline, and dedication, Ruby earned her Junior Black Belt in 2023 β a milestone that reflected both her technical ability and strong character.
Since then, Ruby has continued to grow by training in the adult classes while also giving back to the next generation through her assistance in our childrenβs classes. Her positive attitude, patience, and commitment make her a valued Assistant Instructor and a pleasure to have on the dojang floor.
In 2026, Ruby is aiming to grade for her 1st Dan Black Belt, and we have no doubt she will approach this next challenge with the same focus and determination she has shown throughout her journey.
Ruby is an outstanding role model, particularly for our young female students, demonstrating that hard work, consistency, and confidence truly pay off. We are proud of her achievements and excited to see what the future holds. ππ₯

Last month, our Albany students had the privilege of being taught by Senior Instructor Marlyn.
Marlyn, a 4th Degree Black Belt, began her TaeKwonDo journey under WA Chief Instructor Dane back in February 1994 β and has trained continuously ever since. With over three decades of dedication, she currently leads as the Bassendean Branch Instructor and serves as WAβs Head Female Instructor for First TaeKwonDo.
Her passion, precision, and deep knowledge of TaeKwonDo shone through every moment of the class. Our Albany students thoroughly enjoyed learning from her wealth of experience β from fundamentals to fine details β and were inspired by her lifelong commitment to the art.
A big thank you to SI Marlyn for visiting Albany in country South West WA and sharing her expertise and energy β it was a truly motivating session for all who attended!

At the Black Belt level, candidates are pushed beyond technical skill β they must demonstrate mental strength, focus, and composure under pressure.
One of the most demanding parts of the grading is sparring against multiple opponents, testing not only their technique and stamina but also their ability to stay calm, adapt quickly, and keep fighting with spirit until the very end.
This moment captures the essence of what it means to earn a First TKD Black Belt β discipline, resilience, and indomitable spirit. πͺ
