The wind made conditions difficult enough on the green on Saturday afternoon but then a storm and a blackout stopped play altogether around 3pm.
At that time Andrew Moffatt and Tim Pickstone had a narrow one-shot lead over Ron McGarry and Peter Drew 13-12 after fifteen ends, In the second pairs game Marcus Ronan and Greg Hallett had the advantage over John Mackey and Lotsi Koszta 17-9 after thirteen ends.
In a high scoring triples game Ron Hogan, Daniel Prassad and Gary Nathan were leading Max Elms, Paul Rodenhuis and Josh Roberson 23-16 after sixteen ends. The sides of Russell Dean, Mark McKean and Tony Urza could not be separated from Kevin Dwyer, Sue Murray and Dan Rochfort with scores level at 13 all.
In the final game Bill Dawson, John Lane and Jeff Adams had some work to do in their game against Bill Mackey, Dennis Harvey and Russ MacPherson, as they were trailing 6-16 after fourteen ends.
Next weekend as well as social play, our club is hosting sectional play in the Over 40s Pairs. Fifteen teams from around our area will be competing with the winning team of these sections progressing to the State Finals to be held from 3-6 December.
Play will commence at 9.30 both days with three games on Saturday and the semi-final and final on Sunday morning. The final is set down to be played at 11.30 Sunday morning.
Majellan has three teams competing and we wish Louise Francis and Jodie James, Marcus Ronan and Glen Carter and Paul Francis and Craig Townsend the very best of luck. Come along and support our members and it’s also a great opportunity to watch some good bowls.

In the first game on Tuesday Terry Chifley, Russ MacPherson and Kevin Miller led 16-5 over Gerard Davies, Kevin Arrow and Mick Sewell after ten ends. Sewell won seven of the last eleven ends, but only scoring singles on all but one end. It was not enough to catch Miller, who went on to win 21-14.

Only a single shot separated the side of Wayne Eason, Glen Neil and Tim Pickstone from Max Elms, Darryl Howard and Gary Nathan after eight ends. Nathan held that slim advantage until Pickstone scored the next 14 shots and were in control from that point. Nathan closed the gap to 4 shots but Pickstone scored singles on the last four ends to win 24-14.
On Rink 12 Peter Sharp, Jeff Adams and Greg Hallett played George Ballard, Paul Rodenhuis and Dick Graham. Hallett dominated the early ends and went out to lead 16-4 after twelve ends. Graham then won three consecutive ends to close the gap but Hallett only dropped one more end and took the win 26-11.
The fours game had the closest result of the day. Mark McKean, Jim Clark, Graham Stocks and Dennis Harvey played Peter Phegan, Russell Deans, Frank Brouwers and John Toole on Rink 13. Toole scored a 3 on the first end and was winning by the biggest margin in the game after thirteen ends, 13-8. Harvey then outscored Toole 12-1 and led 20-14 with two ends to play. Toole levelled the game by scoring a 6 on the next end and regained the lead and took the win 22-20 by winning the last end.
On Rink 14 Rick Brown, Mick Foxall and Jim Russell were up against Ron Hogan, Ron McGarry and Darrell Ryan. Ryan won all but four of the first twelve ends and led 14-5 at that point. Russell never really got into the game and Ryan was too good on the day, taking the win 23-12.
In the final game John Banning, Ross Dransfield and Gordon Death played Jake Shurmer, Greg Stocks and Dan Rochfort. Rochfort led 15-5 after eight ends but Death got back into the game by scoring 5 shots on the next end. Rochfort scored the next 10 shots to again have a bog lead. The last few ends were shared but Rochfort won a high scoring game 28-22.

The rain put an end to any social bowls on Tuesday afternoon, but the greens recovered pretty well, and three games of triples were played on Wednesday morning. All matches were closely contested.
In the first game Judy Sharp, Ron McGarry and Kathy Evans played Merle Stephens, Vicki Weal and Gary Nathan. Evans had the early lead, but Nathan tied scores after the eight end. Scores were level again after end twelve and Nathan led by a single shot with the last end to play. They scored a single on this end and won the game 13-11.
2 shots was also the final margin when Ian Hobba, Kerry Lucas and Paul Rodenhuis were up against Beryl Flanangan and Noel Witney. Rodenhuis led 9-4 after eight ends but Witney had closed the gap to 2 shots after scoring a 3 on end thirteen. Rodenhuis scored a single on the next end, but Witney took the win 15-13 by scoring 5 shots over the last two ends.
Allan Clark, Sally Colebatch and Tim Pickstone had the upper hand against Leonie McGarry, Sue Murray and Mick Sewell in the final game. Pickstone won the first four ends and had built up an 8 shot lead after ten ends. Sewell finished the game strongly, winning the last three ends but Pickstone was the better team, winning 15-12.
Just a reminder to all social bowlers that Majellan is holding its Knickerbocker 4s tournament this weekend and there will be no social bowls over the weekend.
Play starts at 9.30am each day, and good luck to all our bowlers over the weekend.
