So well deserved! What an incredible contribution to the Bathurst Giants and to footy in the Central West! 🧡
On Sunday, we had the privilege of inducting two remarkable individuals into the AFL Central West Hall of Fame. Their contributions have helped shape our game, our clubs, and our community over many years. Read below to learn more about their outstanding service and the reasons behind their induction.
⭐ Kathy Sloan from the Bathurst Giants ⭐
Kathy Sloan was nominated by AFL Central West during the inaugural year of the Hall of Fame, and now joins the competition’s esteemed group.
Kathy Sloan's contribution to football in the Central West spans more than three decades and has touched almost every aspect of the game. From her early involvement with the Bathurst Eagles Committee between 1995 and 2000, including serving as Secretary, Kathy was a driving force behind the planning and work required to reintroduce junior football to the region. Her commitment to growing the game and creating opportunities for future generations established a legacy that continues to benefit clubs and communities today.
Between 2002 and 2010, Kathy played a pivotal role in supporting the administration and operations of AFL Central West. Working alongside the General Manager, she developed and maintained many of the systems that underpinned the competition, including recording Best and Fairest votes and results, maintaining historical records, calculating ladders and leading goalkickers, managing tribunal information, maintaining umpire databases, and contributing to the production of finals and grand final programs. Much of this work occurred behind the scenes, yet it was essential to the professional operation and long-term sustainability of the competition.
Her dedication to governance and leadership continued through her service on the AFL Central West Board from 2011 to 2016, where she served as Secretary. During this time, Kathy helped guide the organisation through important strategic and operational decisions, always with the best interests of the game and its participants at heart. Her attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to contribute made her an invaluable member of the board.
Kathy's service to football has also been reflected through her long-standing involvement with the Bathurst Giants. Since joining the committee in 2018, she has held numerous leadership positions, serving as Secretary from 2019 to 2021 before taking on the role of President from 2022 onwards. Under her leadership, the club has continued to grow and strengthen, while maintaining a strong focus on providing opportunities for players, volunteers, and families within the local football community. During this period, she also served as Manager of the GWS Giants Central West Development Squad from 2019 to 2021, supporting the development of talented young footballers across the region.
Over many years, Kathy has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and service to Australian football in the Central West. Her contributions have extended far beyond any single role or club, helping shape competitions, strengthen governance, support player development, and ensure the ongoing growth of the game. Her impact on football across the region is significant and lasting, making her a highly deserving inductee into the AFL Central West Hall of Fame.
Congratulations Kathy!
