Although we were missing some of our BJJ Black Belts at the promotion, the 13 in this picture that managed to make it, represent centuries of training, thousands of combat sport matches, hundereds of titles, and multiple real world pressure tested skills on the street and on the battlefield.

Jessica Lavers-McBain leads from the front again! She has won the New Zealand Wrestling Nationals held in Dunedin. With less than 24hrs of being home from Japan, Jess flew to New Zealand and through absolutely perseverance and determination was victorious. She had a total of six matches and showed great skill and is bring home the Gold to BDK.

Everyone at Black Dragon Kai could not be prouder of her.

Huge congratulations to Jessica Lavers-McBain who won the SJJIF Jiu Jitsu Featherweight No-Gi World Title and the Openweight No-Gi World Title, as well as a Silver Medal in the Gi Featherweight World finals.

The SJJIF Jiu Jitsu World Champioship in 2025 is in Japan.

Over multiple matches Jessica represented Australia and Black Dragon Kai winning bouts with both submissions and points.

Jessica now holds 11 World Titles including 1 x Muay Thai World Champion, 3 x Combat Wrestling World Champion and, 7 x Jiu Jitsu World Champion.

Next up this year for her is New Zealand Wrestling Nationals (accompanied by Isabella Ferraro), Koshiki World Championship (accompanied by a strong BDK Contingent) and the Catch Wrestling World Championship held in Wigan UK.

Everyone at Black Dragon Kai is so proud of her and her inspirational leadership that she embodies but setting the strongest example of what can be achieved with perseverance and determination.

Huge congratulations to Talica Gosley on being recognised by the AFBJJ as the 2024 Number 1 ranked No-Gi BJJ Female Black Belt of Australia!

This is a huge achievement as this is the hardest ranking to achieve, as there is no belt higher to compete against, and all master athletes are allowed to compete in the Senior Adult Division. So, by earning this title, she is by default Australia's best No-Gi female competitor. This was consolidated last year when she won the SJJIF World No-Gi Title and the World Combat Wrestling title.

We are so proud to have Talicia as part of Black Dragon Kai and seeing her start training as a young girl to now become a multiple world champion and #1 ranked athlete has been an amazing example to our students of what hard work and determination can achieve.
