As we look ahead to an exciting new chapter for the Celtics, we’re calling on our members, players, supporters and wider community to get involved and help shape what’s next.

We’re seeking nominations for the following positions:

A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE CELTICS

As we enter our 20th season, change is on the horizon for the Celtics Rugby Union Club.

We are incredibly proud to announce that from 2027, the Celtics will be entering the Brisbane Rugby Union Suburban Competition.

Queensland Suburban Rugby Union

After many years competing in the GCDRU, this marks an exciting new chapter in the history of our club.

We want to sincerely thank the GCDRU for the years we have spent competing in the competition. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time there and are grateful for the opportunities, friendships, rivalries and memories that have been created along the way.

To all the clubs we have shared the field with THANK YOU.
From the battles on the field to the friendships made off it, you have all played a part in our journey and helped create memories that will stay with the Celtics for years to come.

As we celebrate 20 seasons of Celtics Rugby Union, we look forward to everything this next chapter brings.

🏆 LIFE MEMBER AWARD 🏆

Life Members are the pillars of our club. The people whose dedication, commitment and years of service help shape the Celtics into the club it is today.

We are incredibly proud to officially induct and welcome Tony Smales into this very special group.

Tony was awarded Life Membership in 2025, and tonight we proudly recognise and celebrate his induction into the Celtics Life Members.

💙 2026 TAMARUA WHAIORA RAWHITI MEMORIAL AWARD 💙

Unfortunately, the 2026 season began with unimaginable grief following the passing of Tamarua Whaiora Rawhiti (Tama).

Anyone who knows the Celtics Rugby Union Club knows the incredible contribution, dedication and sacrifice that Rata, Erika and the Rawhiti family have made to this club over many years. The countless hours, time and effort they have dedicated to keeping Celtics running and supporting its players is something that will never be forgotten.

It is with great honour, on behalf of the Celtics Rugby Union Club, that we introduce the Tamarua Whaiora Rawhiti Memorial Award.

This award honours the player who best embodies the values Tama lived by.

It recognises a player who not only performs on the field, but leads through their character off it. Someone who plays hard, looks after their mates, puts their team and club first, supports their teammates, and makes sure no one is left behind.

Someone who understands that the stories off the field are just as important as the ones on it.

In memory of Tama, we remember his words:

“Some can, some can’t, zero regrets.”

Tonight, we honour Tama by recognising a player who embodies those same values.

This year’s Order of the Celt goes to someone whose dedication to the Celtics, both on and off the field, has been truly unmatched.

From his commitment to the team, an active member of our committee. His willingness to set up the field on game day to keeping our Friday night raffles at River Road Tavern running throughout the year, he is always willing to put in the work and give back to the club.

A huge thank you also goes to his mum, Kellie, for all her help and support along the way. 💙⚔️
