Get into Rugby Walla & Get into Rugby Try Time proudly supported by Allhomes!

We are excited to announce two new programs for 4 – 7 years of age, that will be played across 14 weeks on Friday evening at 4 x Hubs across the Canberra region.

Get into Rugby – Walla
- Ages 4 to 5 years of age

Get into Rugby – Try Time
- Ages 6 to 7 years of age

These two programs, focus on creating a fun & enjoyable learning environment along with the opportunity to develop the core skills needed for participants to transfer into U8 modified games and continue on their rugby journey.

Each of the sessions will be delivered by accredited coaches with support from the ACT Brumbies Development Officers. The program also encourages and welcomes any new or old volunteers to the game.

North Hub - UC Campus Oval #4

Central Hub (Girls Only Hub) - UC Campus Oval #4

East Hub - Campese Oval

South Hub - Curtain Oval

Note – Both Walla and Try Time are played at each of the 4 Hubs. Girl participants can attend any hub they wish, but there is a girl’s only hub available if they prefer.

We are also calling for any Expression of interest for volunteers who would like to start their journey as well. There are several roles to assist with across the program whether that is coaching, managing, or even the running of the BBQ.

🏉 Get into Rugby – Budding Brumbies presented by Allhomes! 🏉

Get into Rugby - Budding Brumbies presented by Allhomes program provides a fun, safe and inclusive learning environment for participants 4 – 12 years of age and their families. The program is across 4 weeks on a Friday evening at a Central Hub in the Canberra region.

Over the four weeks, players will learn the basics of rugby, improve hand-eye coordination and ball handling skills along with making new friends.

Each of the sessions will be delivered by accredited coaches with support from the ACT Brumbies Development Officers. The program also encourages and welcomes any new or old volunteers to the game.

Ensuring player safety and longevity is our top priority at Wests!

We want to emphasise that the new tackle height laws will be rigorously enforced across all grades & age groups at our club.

Changing the legal tackle height to the base of the sternum ensures the tackler’s head is lower relative to the ball carrier’s body, minimising the risk of head-to-head, and head-to shoulder contact, and reducing the risk of head injury to both players.

All coaches will be working with their teams this preseason explaining the law and working on tackling techniques for all players.

⭐️ Kristy Marks (President) and Owen Hughes (Vice President) are passionate about rugby, and the local community. Their focus for 2024 is to promote and foster the game of Rugby Union and continuing to build the Wests Jnrs community.

👏🏼 Congratulations to our very own u12s Coach Willie who has been appointed assistant coach of the ACT Junior Rugby Union 2024 u12s Mixed Team.

Willie has an amazing skill of teaching players the game, but also instilling the values of discipline, perseverance, belief and teamwork. He has been awarded Wests Jnrs Coach of the year for 2022 & 2023 and we look forward to working with him again in the 2024 season.
