This is what the community has lost.

No need for words these two plovers say it all for themselves and the rest of the wildlife that lived at Wirksworth Park.

The Tasmanian Heritage Council, Heritage Tasmania, the Clarence City Council/councillors, and the State Liberal Government have wilfully and knowingly destroyed the Historic Cultural Heritage Significance of Wirksworth Park. Wirksworth was registered on the National Estate and the Tasmanian Heritage Register for all heritage criteria. The government and our councillors should be ashamed of themselves.

Our government instigated this development and the Clarence City Council willfully and knowingly approved it.

Excavations are currently occurring on Wirksworth Park for contractor site huts and ablution blocks. The area contains historical gas works, sewerage treatment works and waste water reuse systems. Significant maritime and colonial artifacts are also buried in this area. Let’s hope the Government has an archaeologist on site during excavations as legally required in accordance with the Tas Heritage Council works guidelines.

What a mess!

The Wirksworth delay is occurring because the government failed to undertake appropriate surveys before submitting the development application (DA) to the Clarence City Council. Friends of Wirksworth believe that the DA does not comply with the Heritage Council’s Works Guidelines or the CCC Interim Planning Scheme. As previously outlined by the FoW, the government failed to undertake appropriate archeological, environmental, endangered species, potential contaminated site and Aboriginal heritage surveys. The proposed facility could have already been built and occupied on alternative non heritage listed sites if the government had followed its own Affordable Housing Plan 2015 - 2019. Instead this beautiful heritage Park is now destroyed and barren.
