RIP Les
Les's funeral is this Thursday. For those who will not be able to attend. QORLS would like to share this eulogy that we wrote for Les's goodbye.
In Loving Memory of Les
Forever part of our racing family
Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend, a much-loved member of our community, and a man who leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Les was more than just a familiar face in the Australian Off-Road Large-Scale RC community. He was a friend, a passionate supporter of our sport, and a highly respected member of a family of people brought together by a shared love of racing.
Wherever there was a race meeting, there was a good chance Les would be there, camera in hand, ready to capture the action. While others were focused on the racing, Les was busy preserving the moments that made every event special. From the excitement on the track to the friendships in the pits, he captured the memories that so many of us will treasure for years to come.
His photographs were more than just pictures. They were pieces of our history. They told the stories of our racing days, celebrated our achievements, captured our laughter, and reminded us of the friendships that make this community so special. Through his lens, Les gave us something priceless — the ability to look back and relive the moments we shared.
But Les's greatest contribution wasn't just the photographs he took. It was the person he was. He earned the respect and affection of so many through his presence, his dedication, and the important place he held within our racing family. His loss will be felt deeply, not only by those who knew him personally, but by the wider community that was so fortunate to have him as part of it.
There is a special kind of sadness in saying goodbye to someone who has been part of so many of our memories. At future race meetings, we'll find ourselves looking around, expecting to see Les with his camera, ready to capture another moment. We'll miss his presence, his familiar face, and the knowledge that he was there, helping make each event a little more memorable.
And yet, perhaps there is some comfort in knowing that Les has now been reunited with his beloved son, Darren, in heaven. While our hearts are heavy here on earth, we can take solace in the thought of a father and son together again, reunited beyond the limits of this life.
Les, thank you for the friendship, the memories, and the countless photographs that will continue to bring smiles to our faces long after today.
Thank you for being such an important part of our community and for giving so much of yourself to a sport and a group of people you clearly cared about.
Although you may no longer be standing trackside with your camera, your presence will remain with us. Every time we look through the photos you took, every time we remember a race meeting, and every time our community comes together, a little piece of you will be there.
The chequered flag may have fallen on your time with us, Les, but your race is not forgotten. Your memories will live on, your photographs will continue to tell our stories, and your place in the Australian Off-Road Large-Scale RC family will always be yours.
Rest peacefully, Les.
May you now be reunited with Darren, surrounded by love and peace.
You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and never forgotten.
Until we meet again, mate.
