Had a total knee replacement? Your recovery doesn’t end with surgery.
Physiotherapy helps you gradually restore knee movement, strength, walking, balance, confidence and everyday function, with rehabilitation progressing alongside your individual recovery.
It starts with an initial physiotherapy assessment, looking at things like your knee range of motion, swelling, pain and symptoms, quadriceps activation and strength, walking pattern, balance and your current post-operative plan.
From there, early rehabilitation may focus on managing swelling, regaining knee extension, gradually improving flexion, activating your quadriceps and improving your walking and confidence with everyday movement.
As your knee heals, the focus progressively shifts towards rebuilding strength across the entire lower limb (including your quads, glutes, hips, hamstrings and calves) alongside balance, walking endurance and functional movements such as squats, sit-to-stands, step-ups and stairs.
At The Physio Pilates Studio, your rehabilitation can then progress beyond the treatment room, from 1:1 Physiotherapy → Private Clinical Pilates → Small Group Equipment Pilates → Reformer Pilates + Strength Training, depending on your individual recovery.
Because the goal isn’t simply to have a knee that bends. It’s to help you get back to the things that matter to you, whether that’s walking comfortably, gardening, Pilates, golf, travelling or simply using the stairs with more confidence.
