Later today, Bendigo Bats long distance runner Andy Buchanan will compete in the marathon at the Paris Olympics.

The marathon is scheduled to start this afternoon at 4pm (AEST). Good luck Andy!

🏃🏻‍♀️ Runner Jill Wilkie was our Bendigo Sports Star of the month in October 2023. Jill is in the running to be crowned the 2023 Bendigo Sports Star of the Year at the upcoming Gala Night on Friday 23rd February, here's why....

🥇 Gold in the 55-59 years women’s class at the Chicago Marathon capped Jill’s incredible run in a category which drew 1215 starters in October. Jill ran the 42.2km in 2:57.16 to be the WADA world champion for her age group. A gun runner with Bendigo Harriers and also for Bendigo Bats, Jill was almost three minutes clear of her nearest rival. It was Jill’s 14th marathon start as Chicago’s race included the world age championships. Among the thousands watching on was Jill’s husband, David.

The Chicago Marathon is one of six World Marathon Majors. The others being Berlin, Boston, London, New York and Tokyo. Jill has raced in all of them at least once and is a member of the Six Star Club. Her first marathon start was Melbourne in 2013. A major goal for Jill is to race the Sydney Marathon in September which will incorporate the world age group titles. Jill will be chasing back-to-back victories against hundreds from around the world.

A huge congratulations to Jill Wilkie who last weekend won the 55-60 age group at Chicago marathon which doubled as the World Age Group Championship. Jill ran an impressive time of 2:57:17!!

Word on the street is she might have a new signing for the Bats womens Div 2 team for next year
