Sosai Memorial Day • April 26
Today we bow our heads in deepest respect to remember Sosai Masutatsu Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate.
A man whose spirit, discipline, courage, and vision changed martial arts forever. Through relentless training, uncompromising standards, and a heart devoted to Budo, Sosai created more than a style — he created a way of life followed by generations around the world.
This special photograph shows Sosai Mas Oyama together with Soshi Kazuyuki Hasegawa, one of the legendary direct students of the Honbu Dojo era and champion of the historic 1970 All Japan Tournament, where he defeated many of the strongest fighters of that generation. Hasegawa Soshi represents a living bridge to the original spirit of Kyokushin and continues to guide students worldwide through IKO World Zen-Kyokushin.
Those who trained directly under Sosai remember not only his strength, but also his presence, discipline, and the feeling that Kyokushin was something sacred to protect and pass on.
Even after decades, Sosai’s teachings still live every time we bow in the Dojo, every time we endure hard training, every time we rise after being knocked down, and every time we choose respect over ego.
Today we remember.
Today we give thanks.
Today we continue the path.
One spirit. One legacy. One Kyokushin.
Osu. 🥋🔥
