Tigers,
Fine weather meant both our Division One and Two men took the field together for the first time on Saturday.

At the Emus home ground our men had a convincing win. The Emus batted and put together a handy 6 for 185. Pundits described our attack as rusty. It’s early days and the men will be better for the run.

We were keen to see one of our recruits in action and he didn’t disappoint. Big Bailey launched from the first ball and his 68 off 26 excited all. A mention also to the much unheralded Mitch Blackman 49 off 40, and Mac Whittle’s 37 no off 16. We finished with 3-189 off 18 overs. Stumps were called then, saving the Emus from a demolition.

Our Twos were up against the Crows at Ewing. An experienced Crows outfit batted and got 6 for180. Solid effort and we would need to be at our best to match it. Another recruit, Tom Kirk showed his class with 63 no, whilst the ever reliable Damien Whan 78 no. It doesn’t matter what grade Damien plays he gives his all. A nice win.

The big discussion on Saturday night and it caused some consternation was the eligibility of the famous Tiger Hour. The rules that three wins constitute an hour’s free drinks is universally recognised. When only two sides play and both win, what is the ruling? There were some from the heart arguments - it’s amazing how emotions can run riot when the talking point affects the hip pocket. Others relied on threats and intimidation and they were immediately shut down. The meeting decided that 40 minutes free drinks would be the fairest outcome. The meeting immediately concluded as the patrons flocked to the bar.

Match reports tomorrow. Worth a read, there were a few highlights.

Thanks to our graphic designers for the amazing social calendar poster. Hours went into making it look like this (wish we were joking).

Saturday we have our first members’ draw. Rules are simple like us.
1. purchase your $20 members ticket from the ubar (this comes with 5 free beers, so do the maths on that). Purchase as many as you want to increase your chances.
2. Attend the Ubar for the captains’ awards on Saturday night.
3. First present member drawn wins the $500 thanks to the Tysons Reef. There’s a strong rumor that a large cohort of the Hartney clan will not be present, so your chances have just increased again!

Tigers,
Another season has commenced and the Tigers have taken a low-key approach after the heroics of last season.

Two games on the weekend with our Ones taking on Marong at Ewing - which used to be the most water resistant oval in Bendigo. Unfortunately the centre wicket has become a water catchment zone and with any precipitation it is what could be described as a small lake. Hopefully remedial work will alleviate the problem.

Our Twos headed off to Mandurang to replay the last two year’s grand finals. An overcast and damp facility met them as they encountered a team that were hell bent on some revenge for the last two years. The Rangers were too good, getting a pretty good score and restraining us in our chase. Stand in skipper Justin Hancock was good with the ball taking four wickets and new recruit Tom Kirk looks good. The reason Justin was skipper was due to Dooley and Mikaela getting married a week before cricket starts and honeymooning when the season commences. Both are very important parts of our club administration so they will be forgiven, but told it won’t be tolerated again.

We take our helmets off to popular man Ash Mayo. As he headed out to open the batting, he put his helmet back in his bag and was heard to say “I won’t bother with that, helmets are overrated”.

He spent several hours at Emergency Department and Sunday visiting an eye specialist in Melbourne. We wish him well.

Whilst talking about injuries we want speedy recoveries for Harry Whittle and Tom Calvert. Both have undergone surgeries which will keep them out for a few weeks. Also, Simon Marwood is recovering from an injury and we hope to see him back in the near future. The club has appointed Patrick Hartney in charge of the Ones until we get Harry back.

Mystery bus is back on the 31st of this month. Details on the poster. Apparently tickets are selling out.

Remember don’t mess with a wounded Tiger. Grrr.

DIV 1 0-0 Marong
DIV 2 FA def by MAND- a couple more

A little bit of cricket, a little bit of team bonding. Paddy captained his first game for the first XI and did the right thing for bar sales. He negotiated an early settlement and the ubar went off.

DIV 2 didn’t have the best. But we’ll hear about that in the match reports later in the week.

The Tigers are back into it for 26/27.

With the wash out tonight, activities were restricted to the hat presentation ceremony (help yourself off the table).

DIV 1 has Marong at 1pm at Ewing. Welcome to new players Bailey Ilsley and Andrew Gladstone.

DIV 2 has Mandurang at Mandurang from 1. Jordan Pedersen (not Peterson) and Tom Kirk will debut.

Gday all, we’ve been a bit quiet lately. The tigers have just been grinding away in closed door sessions at CMC.

This week we are hosting an open to the public session, save for the Rod Whittle (happy 60th if you’re reading Rod) technique sessions, which as always are hidden from public view. We’re back to Thursday nights at the home of cricket.

Mitch Hatman has also got his delivery of baggy blacks right to go. A gift from the club for those that pay their subs on time. Mitch was excited to get the new merch and has modeled them immediately. As you can see, they are the English style of cap and “don’t look like you’re wearing a beanbag on your head”.
