It’s all starts with learning to fall, roll and move safely.
From there, kids learn how to throw or take down a partner
using techniques that suit their age and size.
It’s about balance, timing, and control.
They also do groundwork learning what to do once they’re on the ground. They learn how to hold, stay calm, and work their way out.
Every session includes wrestling and randori (practice sparring), so they get a chance to actually use what they’ve learned.
There’s a lot of trying and trying again.
Give it a few weeks and you see the improvement come to life.
They’re not as hesitant.
They have a go without overthinking it.
And they bounce back a bit quicker when something doesn’t work.
And along the way, they start to build real confidence, control, and self-belief.

Starting next week May 5th, our Tuesday no-gi session will be moving to a Gi ne-waza session 7pm Thursday. This will run directly after our regular judo session so if you’ve been wanting more ne-waza experience this is the class for you!

Mon - 7pm Judo
Wed- 6:30pm no-gi
Thurs - 6pm judo, 7pm gi ne-waza

We’ve got a few spots open in our Thursday 5pm junior judo class.
Judo is a great mix of movement, learning, and fun.
Kids are constantly active; rolling, balancing, and learning how to move their bodies, while building real confidence each week.
They also start to develop basic self-defence skills in a safe, controlled environment.

What a weekend for the team at .academy Grand Prix.
We had some awesome results across the board, with every one of our athletes bringing home a medal from a mixture different division’s and rule sets.
A big thank you to the Senshi team for yet another fantastic comp, and for championing No-Gi Judo. Our team absolutely loved the format, and it was great to see the progress we’ve made in No-Gi grappling space in just six months since introducing these classes.
Special mention to our juniors - for many, this was their first competition. The spirit, courage, and effort they showed was outstanding, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them.
Onward and upward. 👊
