Wudang Kungfu Rockhampton

It’s our schools 24th year anniversary this month….what a year it’s been! Spring has reached Japan, new beginnings are flourishing!
Since returning to Japan last year I’ve been studying a related style to add a new component to our training.
In Oz there were some hiccups after I left but classes have continued with strong & dedicated leadership from senior students. Currently the Rocky group isn’t accepting new students but that may change soon enough.
Later this year we have a group of students traveling to Japan for training and for 1 student to do their instructors test.

Tomoyo is the best! I cannot recommend her highly enough. She helped me with an old injury a few years ago that I thought I’d be with forever.

With a mix of sadness and excitement I’d like to announce it’s time for my family and I to move back to Japan permanently. The next 2 weeks will be my last in the school.
The first phase of our school was to take hold in Oz, it’s now time for our strong senior students to grow those seeds into the next phase as the leaders of our style in Australia. You’ll hear more from them soon enough 😉
I will remain part of our school from afar, and will stay in contact with all members. Tours to train in Japan with me and some other martial artists are already well in the works….the world is much smaller than it used to be!
Sincere thank you to everyone that passed through our school doors over these past almost-7 years and played a part, no matter how small, in our school formally establishing a presence for Wudang Zhaobao HeStyle Gongfu in Australia.

This week Stanley completed his Black Sash exam. The 4 hour exam culminates in a 100 rounds of Tuishou (stand up wrestling with strikes).
Thanks to all our students who came in fresh when Jack, Stanley & Lisa were past exhausted to help with the 100 Rounds.

Some of our students are 1/4 way through an Intensive Training Program designed to take them into advanced training. The results have been more than I could’ve hoped for! The future of Wudang Zhaobao HeStyle International is looking really strong!

I can’t recommend Monkey Steals Peach & their videos enough, especially this documentary on Shaolin Kungfu. It’s impossible to explain how rare the access is that Will gives us in this video and all his others. This is my go-to channel! And he’s a really nice guy that knows his stuff.

Very proud to say that after a nonstop 3.5 hour grading, Lisa passed her Black Sash grading last night.

A decade ago my teacher gave me the job of finding the teachers of our style outside of China. After developing 1 in Japan I moved to Oz to find more. My teacher’s only request, don’t randomly give permission to teach and develop the teachers you choose to the best of your ability.
That is why we’ve always kept our school small, to be able to really develop the highest skill in the best people.
That’s why gradings are so important to us, they represent steps towards the promise I made to my teacher and the continuation of our traditional lineage.

It’s grading time at our school. We have our second Black Sash grading in Australia. We also have our first ever Kids Gray Sash grading (we don’t give kids Black Sashes).
Traditionally our style doesn’t use grades or sashes, my school never used them before opening in Oz. Black Sash represents Shodan, Beginning Degree. It’s the start, when a student really starts to learn the style.
