Danger Noodle / Snake Awareness post.
About 19 months ago, a parkrunner was bitten by a snake at Bibra Lake parkrun.
The parkrunner thought it was just a stick that flicked up and caught their ankle, as they didnt see a snake at the time.
Learnings we like to share from this incident are:
1. The bite marks can be very small as you can see in the photos, with little to no bleeding.
2. Often the snake bite will have a scratch mark with puncture wounds.
3. Even if it feels like a scratch from a stick, see the Runner Director or a volunteer to check you over and call for medical assistance if required.
4. Sharing information and photos can help educate people to identify snake bites & seek medical attention quickly.
5. If in doubt, just seek medical attention.
6. Have the St Johns App or another medical app on your phone to get quicker medical assistance.
